The Viroqua Public Record: July 4, 2026
"Viroqua's upcoming meetings to decide city's master blueprint, project scopes, road maintenance, and 2027 budget goals!"

Your neighbor's guide to what's happening at City Hall
The Big Takeaway
Viroqua's Plan Commission is holding two public hearings on July 15 that could shape the city for years to come. First, they'll take public comment on an amendment to TID #7 (Tax Increment District — a financing tool where the city invests in an area and pays for it with the increased tax revenue that development generates). Second, and arguably bigger: the commission will hear public input on the city's draft Comprehensive Plan, which is the master blueprint guiding land use, housing, transportation, and growth across Viroqua. If you've ever said "somebody should do something about how this town is growing," this is your chance to be that somebody.[3]
Money Watch
The Public Works Committee will review and vote on change order #2 for the Hanson Farm project on July 7 — change orders typically mean the project scope or cost has shifted from the original contract, so it's worth watching what's being added or adjusted. The same meeting will open bids for chip sealing and microsurfacing, two common road maintenance techniques that keep streets in shape without the cost of full repaving. These contracts directly affect which roads get attention this year and how far the street maintenance budget stretches.[2]
The Plan Commission will also consider a resolution approving the TID #7 project plan and boundary amendment, which could commit future tax increment dollars to development in that district.[3]
Coming Up
Public Works Committee
Join via Zoom. Consultant presentations on Education Avenue — if you live, work, or drive on that corridor, this is your meeting.[2]
Parks & Recreation Committee
Join via Zoom. The committee will start setting goals and priorities for the 2027 Parks & Rec budget, so if you have opinions about trails, playgrounds, or programming, speak up early.[1]
Plan Commission
Join via Zoom. Two public hearings: TID #7 amendment and the Comprehensive Plan draft. Both allow public comment.[3]
The Quick Rundown
Eckhart Playground project gets an update at the Parks & Rec meeting. The committee may take action, so this project appears to be moving from planning into decision-making territory.[1]
Railroad Avenue well house demolition — Public Works will discuss whether to tear down this structure. If you've driven past it and wondered what that building is, you may soon have your answer: gone.[2]
Hanson Farm plat of survey — The Plan Commission will review and approve the subdivision plat, a necessary step before lots can be sold or built on. This is separate from the change order on the infrastructure side, meaning the Hanson Farm development is advancing on multiple fronts simultaneously.[3]
Employee performance reviews — Public Works will go into closed session to discuss evaluations for the Utility Billing Clerk, Assistant Street Superintendent, and Street Auxiliary Worker. Any resulting action (raises, promotions) will happen back in open session.[2]
2026 project and department updates — Both Public Works and Parks & Rec will give status reports on current projects and operations. These are non-action items but useful for keeping tabs on progress.[1] [2]
One More Thing
The Parks & Rec committee is already talking about 2027 budget priorities — in July of 2026. That's unusually early and suggests the committee wants community input baked in from the start rather than scrambling in the fall. If you've got a pet project — a pickleball court, a splash pad, better trail lighting — July 7 is the time to plant that seed.[1]
