Welcome to Vespertine Dispatch, a newsletter about writing, reading, art, and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Who Are You?
E.M. Morrissey, writer of dark fantasy and science fiction. In a past life I completed a PhD in Japanese Art History. I have a few short stories out and am working on a novel, which is taking approximately forever.
Why?
Social media has its merits (few), but I want a place to write casual, longer-form thoughts. I probably won’t be going into current writing projects in detail (I am deeply superstitious on this front), but I read a lot of books and want to be able to talk about them in more depth. Goodreads is not a place of honor; a blog seems a better format these days.
What?
Book reviews, thoughts on writing craft, trends in SFF, art (broadly conceived), whatever weird old show I’m watching on Tubi, jokes that don’t quite land, etc.
When?
Monthly, at least. More frequently when I have something interesting to talk about.
If any of that sounds interesting, or if you too long for an alternative to social media, subscribe! Let’s see what we can unearth from the ruins of the internet.
