The Leader AI Needs: A Manifesto for What Comes Next
This is the thirtieth email I've sent you.
If you've been here since the beginning, you've read about governance frameworks and execution principles. You've gotten prompts and playbooks. You've heard me talk about alignment, precision, integrity, and the human edge.
Today I want to step back from the tactical and say something I believe to my core.
The world doesn't need more AI. It needs better leaders.
The Real Crisis
The crisis isn't that AI is too powerful. It's that leadership hasn't kept pace.
We have tools that can process the entirety of human knowledge in seconds. And we're using them to write slightly better emails and generate slightly faster reports.
We have systems that can analyze patterns across millions of data points. And we're governing them with policies written for filing cabinets.
We have agents that can take autonomous action across entire organizations. And we're managing them with org charts designed in the 1950s.
The technology is ahead. Leadership is behind. And that gap — THAT gap — is the most dangerous thing in enterprise AI today.
What the Next Era Demands
The leaders who will define the next decade aren't the ones who know the most about AI. They're the ones who:
Lead with integrity. Not the poster-on-the-wall kind. The structural kind. Building organizations where what you say, what you do, and what you're built to do are all the same thing. AI amplifies everything — including dysfunction. Only organizations built on genuine integrity will survive that amplification.
Execute with precision. Not the "do more faster" kind. The geometric kind. Fewer initiatives, executed with clarity. Strategy aligned to action aligned to measurement. Every resource pointed in the same direction.
Govern with courage. Not the compliance checkbox kind. The kind where someone has the authority and the spine to say "no, we're not deploying this until the guardrails are in place." The kind where governance makes you FASTER because it eliminates ambiguity, not slower because it adds bureaucracy.
Value humans fiercely. Not with lip service about "our people are our greatest asset." With real investment in the skills that AI can't replicate. With honest conversations about what's changing. With a commitment to making AI serve human potential, not replace it.
The Choice
You can wait for someone else to define what leadership looks like in the AI era. You can read about it in case studies three years from now and say, "Oh, that's what they did."
Or you can define it yourself. Starting Monday. Starting with the next decision you make.
Every email I've sent you has been building toward this: you are the leader AI needs. Not a perfect leader. Not an AI expert. A human being willing to think clearly, act with integrity, and lead people through uncertainty.
That's what I write about. That's what I believe. And if any of these emails have resonated with you, I'd encourage you to go deeper:

Thank you for reading. Thank you for leading. Now go build something worth building.
