Batch of Great Little Software #1

First of all, I would like to thank every one of you for subscribing, I am overwhelmed by the amount of interest and support I got!

Since we last spoke, I have had the pleasure to interview a few absolutely exceptional people and even managed to publish the first article about psikat - a great little in-browser musical tool and his awesome creator - Redas. You can read it at https://greatlittle.software/blog/psikat-tracker-like-daw/. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did writing it!

And, as promised, you’ll be the first one to hear about the gems I’ve uncovered.

For those of you who appreciate the minimalism and the power of terminal applications - I present to you term-serve and its creator Ovi. Term serve is an open source project that allows you to access your laptop’s terminal from any browser safely and securely. Works particularly great for mobile devices. And you can hear more about Ovi’s view on AI development process, the art of terminal applications and battling code entropy, I recommend listening to his talk about the project.

If you’re more into interfaces, particularly the ones with the liquid glass effect - you might enjoy Recallr - a little app you can share any image, recipe or link into and get it parsed and categorised with on-device apple intelligence. Simon, its creator told me that he didn’t want to compromise on privacy so he made sure to keep it within apple ecosystem. Because yes, Simon’s and your trade cards and recipes deserve a safe space too!

And last, but not least, I had an inspiring conversation with Corentin about his amazing document management platform Papra. Papra is self-hostable and open source and you’ll see right away that Corentin, like many of us, has very strong principles regarding privacy, ethical monetization and transparency. In the interview he said that his hope is that Papra would become “the kind of open-source project that lives beyond its creator, one that will adapt and evolve with the needs of its users”.

Building from principles feels fragile at times and stories of people like Corentin are very much needed for when the doubt that one could live from working on the projects they enjoy creeps in.

Stay tuned for more stories, share your thoughts and most importantly projects and keep building!

/ Valeria
