#3 Self-hosted collection
Over the past week I've been exploring the world of self-hosted software and I felt like an Alice in Wonderland: the ways software is written and consumed there are certainly very different from the “cloud-native” way and I'm happy to tell you all about it. Eventually, that is, because it’s a lot!
Let’s start with a story of a decade-long hobby project by Bogdan Brinza (aka boggydigital) aimed at preserving the art of Good Old Games and serving as a self-hosted alternative to Steam: https://greatlittle.software/blog/theo-vangogh-game-preservation-brothers/
Are you more into books than games? There’s https://gitlab.com/Nystik/inkheart - a beautiful PDF library indexer and reader.
Prefer hardware to software collections? https://github.com/RackulaLives/Rackula lets you plan your server racks with drag and drop GUI.
And the story of this app and its creator, Gareth Evans, is next in line. You can tell by the name that it'll be fang-tastic!
Until then, enjoy your Sunday and keep on building!
