Tidying up my desk while the house is on fire
Dopaminergic systems for chaotic times
All of my blog posts, newsletters, and 1-1 emails are written by me — em dashes and all! If you wanna know how I use AI in my business, click here.
Yesterday, I spent a lot of time updating the color scheme and layout of my task management system, TickTick.
It was by no means the most pressing thing on my to-do list. It actually wasn’t on my to-do list at all. But, sometimes, when it feels like my house is on fire, all I want to do is tidy up or decorate my desk.
We are about to enter into Mercury Retrograde in my beloved rising sign, Pisces.
The planet of thinking and communication loves gathering information and digging into the details, and Pisces is more interested in zooming out and absorbing how things feel. In this mutable water sign, Mercury can get lost at sea, and our plans and conversations can be more confusing and frustrating. (Your Guide to Mercury Retrograde in Pisces)
So if you, like me, have already been crawling through the chaotic energies of this year on your hands and knees, it may be time to lay down for a bit.
At first it felt counterproductive to focus on something as frivolous as my calendar’s color palette, but it actually provided me with enough dopamine to tick some necessary things off my task list yesterday. I also updated my list names and emojis 🕺
Shoutout to Sara for helping me choose the new color palette for Type C at the end of last year. It has now transferred over to my task list and makes me feel oh so happy.
What systems-related or digital task would give you a dopamine boost right now?
Maybe it’s changing your desktop background to a dreamy place less affected by fascism, adding an emoji to your email labels, or customizing the colors on your calendar (I literally have a Pinterest board called Calendar for times such as these).
I hereby give you permission to make space to play this week.
xoxo Andrea
