Moving is overwhelming for almost everyone, but as someone with ADHD, it feels like the Mount Everest of logistics.
I’m going to do 30 minutes of packing/decluttering every day, I told myself at the end of February with the best of intentions. Then I looked around at all of my things and completely shut down.
When it comes to big, overwhelming tasks and projects (work or personal), lack of specificity is often my downfall.
What does it mean to pack/declutter for 30 mins every day? Where do I start? What do I do?
I received a gorgeous package from Cody Cook-Parrott last week with their new book, The Practice of Attention: Cultivating Presence in a Distracted World (out tomorrow!!!). In it was the absolute cutest to-do list pad that I’ve been using to make household tasks more fun. Shoutout to Worthwhile Paper!
With a little more than two weeks left before I gtfo of my current residence, I decided to get reallllly detailed in my packing to-dos, breaking down each section of my space shelf-by-shelf, drawer-by-drawer.
Given the time crunch, I won’t have the luxury of limiting myself to one task per day. But knocking out 3-4 small spaces per day sounds totally doable and definitely less overwhelming.
And to make things even more fun, I’m going to create a packing playlist to accompany me. Side note, I was recently reminded that So Good by Destiny’s Child is one of the greatest songs ever made and I’ve been listening to it at least 10 times a day.
If you’re finding yourself in a sea of to-dos or big projects you can’t seem to start, see how it feels to go small. Even smaller and more specific than what feels necessary.
