My 'toxic' productivity trait
I'm here to talk about calendars. Exciting, huh?
All of my blog posts, newsletters, and 1-1 emails are written by me — em dashes and all! If you wanna know how I use AI in my business, click here.
One of my toxic traits is changing platforms as soon as I've built a habit out of using something else. It keeps life chaotic and overwhelming, just what the doctor who prescribes my anxiety medication ordered!
I've been an iCal girl for as long as I can remember. It's actually probably my longest standing relationship. In the past, I've also used Google Calendar, Sunsama, Outlook, Timepage, Any.do, and probably many other random discoveries from the App Store.
I gravitated back to Google Calendar this year after watching Jules Acree's How I Organize My Calendar video. I've been using it successfully for a few weeks so obviously it was time to switch things up!
As I mentioned in my last email, I'm working on simplifying my tech life; my biggest need at the moment is a more streamlined calendar/task system so I only have to come back to one place throughout the day.
In comes Fantastical — which, let's be real, is a humiliating name. It gives me almost the same level of cringe as the term “amazeballs.” But it's giving enough to make up for it.
Here's what I love about this calendar app:
Combines tasks from Google and ToDoist with my daily meetings
Syncs all of my calendars in one place (I have 5 😭) but automatically hides duplicate events across all my calendars
Connects with Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, Teams to easily create new meeting links in calendar invites
Replaces Calendly/other scheduling software with its Openings feature; this Premium feature makes it easy for others to schedule meetings by offering time slots that work with my schedule. AND I get to save $$ on one less software.
Mobile friendly (I added the calendar app as a widget on my iPhone so I can easily see my tasks and meetings from my home screen)
Multi time zone friendly (because most of my clients live on the West Coast and I can barely keep track of time as it is)
You can learn more/try the Premium features for free for 14 days here. I get approximately $0 for raving about this product. Yes, I'm a saint.
Let me know if you end up trying it out!
Peace, love and workflows,
Andrea
