I’m working on my new website and felt inspired to write a Type C Creative manifesto. I work with a lot of neurodivergent clients who are conditioned to feel like the way they work is ‘wrong’ or ‘weird’ or that they’re unproductive, disorganized, or lazy.
I’ve felt it too. Like the way I communicate or structure myself isn’t normal or is misunderstood, that people may judge me for it.
This manifesto is for anyone who has felt like their best isn’t good enough. To those of us who have second-guessed who we are because of how we may be perceived. I encourage you to take whatever statements you feel most drawn to. Write them down on a sticky note and post it at your desk. (Or, if you’re a paid subscriber, print it out and put it on your wall.)
You are enough, my friend.
Peace, love and workflows,
Andrea
Repeat after me:
I am not destined for a disorganized life because of my neurodivergence!
I can thrive in systems of my own making.
If it wasn’t built with me in mind, I don’t have to use it.
I don’t have to wake up at 5am to be successful.
Just because it works for a cis-het white man, doesn’t mean it’ll work for me.
No one’s version of ‘organized’ will look exactly the same, and that’s okay.
My version of ‘organized’ is just as valid as anybody else’s.
Chaos is unavoidable and has nothing to do with who I am as a person.
Disorganization is unavoidable and has nothing to do with who I am as a person.
It’s okay if my neurodivergence doesn’t feel like “my superpower.”
It’s okay if my neurodivergence manifests differently than what I see in others.
It’s okay for me to rest and take breaks and have ‘unproductive’ days.
I am doing the best I can with what I have, and that’s enough.
Shame is a product of the society I live in, not evidence that something’s wrong with me.
I have capacity for success, fulfillment, and joy — even if I don’t feel productive or organized.
I have the tools I need to do my best work within me.
I am not alone in how I think, feel, and respond to the world around me.
There is no right or wrong way to live my life and do my work.
I am supported, accommodated, and well-resourced.
And so it is.
