"Adapt or die" doesn't apply to me.
All of my blog posts, newsletters, and 1-1 emails are written by me — em dashes and all! If you wanna know how I use AI in my business, click here.
I moved back to Florida last week and spent the weekend with some college friends, all of whom work in creative fields.
One of my friends, who works in social media at a large company, said their CEO has a really intense stance on AI adaptation:
“AI won’t replace people—but people who don’t use AI will eventually be replaced by people who do.”
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard something like this.
I’ve talked to friends whose bosses insist they “find a way” to incorporate AI into their workflow; not necessarily because it’ll be helpful, but because if they don’t, they’ll be left behind.
And no one wants to be left behind.

This false sense of urgent, “adapt or die” thinking is fueled by capitalism.
Of course these tech bros want us to believe we’ll lose our competitive edge if we don’t go all-in on what they’re selling.
Of course companies want their employees to use these tools to increase output without having to pay people more.
The conversation with my friend made me realize how grateful I am to be the one in charge of my business. I am extremely proud of my ability to adapt and willingness to evolve, and I’m grateful I get to do those things on my own terms.
I work with other AI-conscious (and critical) business owners who:
want to run their business simply and sustainably
value doing things well, even if they take a little longer (and aren’t perfect)
aren’t interested in optimization for optimization’s sake…they’re craving supportive systems that honor their natural rhythms and ways of working
I don’t believe we’ll all get left behind if we don’t fully adapt to AI. I think resisting in value-aligned ways will actually set us apart.

P.S. I met with the incomparable Erin Shetron last week to map out some new content pillars for this newsletter. (Though I guess “new” implies I had any content pillars to begin with lol.)
One of the topics I feel most on fire about right now is mindful AI + intentional technology, so expect more content like this moving forward — along with other goodies that will still not be dictated by a content calendar.
Peace, love and workflows,
Andrea
