Tris Talks... May Newsletter (I know, I know)

Complete confession… I started writing this newsletter on June 1st. Then I promptly utterly failed to find time to finish writing this newsletter and get it sent out. Which… pretty much defines how the last month has gone.
My newsletter template begins with “A brief overview of life the last month” and I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to even begin. Other than hi, my newsletter is late. Again. Sorry!!
As you know from my brief announcement mid-May, my husband broke his leg and is (still) completely non-weight-bearing. It happened on a Monday night, he had surgery the following Tuesday morning, and was home late that Wednesday. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride the last few weeks (it was four weeks ago today). I worked from home, and have now started back to campus part time while still working from home the rest.
We’ve had a lot of adapting to do, including purchasing an electric scooter (and wasn’t that fun, trying to figure out WTH I was doing wrong with the battery before we got it working consistently). But now he can transfer to that to move food around the house, he can go shopping with me and get out of the house, he can zoom (hah, it’s not really zooming speeds) around the campground and “walk” with me and the dog.
But a lot of my life still revolves around doing all the things, since all of my chores, plus all of his chores, plus everything that comes up (I got to snake the toilet at camp… wasn’t that a joy…). My schedule keeps being disrupted. It hasn’t been great for focus, but let me say, the headaches love it.
Anyway.
This all means we have adapted and done what we needed to do, but it also means we had to cancel our trip to Balticon and our planned cruise right after Balticon. The scooter should mean no more cancellations for the near future, at least. Hopefully the upcoming RenFaire isn’t horrifically muddy! The forecast claims rain the day before, and sun/heat the day of, so we are crossing our fingers.
Life went on in the publishing world…
Life did go on!
In the graphic design world, I posted my first new design to RedBubble in a while—a martial arts design: Dancing With Damage. You can check it out here: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/180630248
I will be slowly uploading all my other new designs, because while I can order stickers easily enough to sell at markets, T-Shirts are not cost effective. But people can order POD versions, and that works!
Also, the full Twinned trilogy is now available at the Duck Prints Press shop. Did you miss out on the Kickstarter? Want to share it with a friend? Check out this link, which also includes anthologies I am in: https://duckprintspress.com/authors/authortrislawrence/
Oh, and did you notice the first item on the list? Duck Prints Press has three Pride bundles available! I have a story in the explicit bundle, but there is also a general imprint bundle, and an art bundle: https://duckprintspress.com/shop/
A percentage of each bundle goes to the selected charities for this year: The Queer Liberation Library and the Transgender Law Center.
I did make some progress on things…
I finally managed to get my second Vograce order in! It probably will not arrive before my first market, but that means when people see me a second time I will have new things. Which is good, right?
I ordered 9 new sticker designs, 3 bullet journal notebooks, a tote bag, five washi tape designs, and a sticker sheet of washi writing stickers. I am very excited by all of these designs.
And going forward…
Right now, my brain is like… I’ll take anything. I need to finish the mending (somehow I have a bunch of T-shirts with holes punched by the cat, or seams that came undone, plus the tank tops that I want to wear but need the shoulders taken up so they fit properly). I have knitting projects that have languished due to lack of ambition.
And of course. There’s writing to be done.
I know I am very very behind on the professional writing front. But. I am not going to make it my top priority; I can’t handle that level of stress right now. My brain is already firing in a near-constant fight-or-flight mode. I have the flash fic course I’d like to finish taking (that stalled utterly in early May). I’d also like to write some fic simply for the joy of writing.
And of course, writing aside, I do have other fun things to work on like jewelry, and the upcoming market, plus a whole bunch of business things to be done.
Where’s Tris going to be, anyway?
My next convention should be Philcon in November, but before then if you are local, you can find me at Troy Pride Night Out on June 26th. I’ll have my table next to Duck Prints Press, right at the corner of one of the side streets! Come visit both of us.
I’m still looking for more markets to round out the year. I can’t do one every weekend like many folks do, but I’d like to do one a month or so. I hope they’ll help get my name out there, but I’m also, of course, hoping to start making my business an income-producing activity! I’d love to not be in the red.
And that’s a wrap on the newsletter! With luck, June will continue to get easier, and by the end of the month, we hope that my husband will be walking again, just in time for our week’s vacation (staycation—we’ll be at our campground, nothing elaborate).
I also have a Patreon, which will be far more interesting when I get to drafting PHU again, for anyone curious about early chapters and behind-the-scenes glimpses.
Come find me on social media if you want to chit-chat or just hear me natter on about life, writing, and fandom. I’m tryslora everywhere!
