Hi everyone,
Here’s your weekly trove of recommendations. If you enjoy it, please feel free to forward this along to friends.
Your Career Is Just One-Eighth of Your Life by Derek Thompson
This is sometimes called the “explore-exploit” sequence. The idea is that many successful people are like good oil scouts: They spend a lot of time searching for their space, and then they drill deep when they find the right niche.
Rewarding work is not easy, but an achievable challenge that requires stretching your capabilities and allowing for learning and growth (another reason to explore, instead of just exploit)
Upbeat background videgame music
From a delightful indie game about a bird climbing up a mountain in the fictional Hawk Peak Provincial Park. Seems fitting as we head into Fall.
HOW TO LANGUAGE EXCHANGE SUCCESSFULLY:TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE YOUR NEXT LANGUAGE EXCHANGE A SLAM DUNK
This guide focuses on English-Japanese conversation but the principles and tips covered apply to any kind of language exchange. I’m looking forward to supplementing private lessons taught by professional teachers with more casual conversations with Japanese speakers learning English.
The sento owners making group bathing in Japan cool again
To give you an idea of what a sento looks like, this is the spot I went to often in Nagoya. Compared to onsen located in scenic areas, sento tend to have many more styles of bath to enjoy. I always appreciated being able to dip in ice baths and head into the sauna afterwards.
Thanks for reading Trove. See you next week!
