Energy Sources #03 – Jun.22
Energy Sources | Issue 03 | June 2022
Season 3 of my ENERGY TRANSMISSION is full on, but I need a month break from interviews. 🫠
This month I continue my other format "ENERGY SOURCES". Normally I drop my energy sources at the end of the interviews, but I want to establish this listicle format as its own newsletter. This helps me to fill the gaps between interviews and seasons. So, here we go again!
I share with you some things I found on the Internet or in streets, that infused me with good vibes. We start off with 3 projects I was involved in and then a pretty long list of nice things. A lot happened – hope you like it.
These are my new energy sources from last month:
THE INFINITE EIGHT™ by bubbleplastic x Ahrens Ahrens
This is a HUGE one! You might now bubbleplastic by now – the arts project by Niko Pelz, Finn Bohn and me.
Our most sophisticated and complex collaboration to date has been out for a month now and you can still purchase 1 of 8 limited pieces of THE INFINITE EIGHT™.
As a special, we also launched a raffle to get one amulet. For just 20€ you're in and have the chance of winning this 1.500€ masterpiece. The best thing: each raffle ticket for one of the physical Amulets doubles as THE INFINITE EIGHT™ NFT. Go ahead and try your luck: ENTER RAFFLE. I love to see this idea unfold in a project that has it all: Megazordian masterpieces, a limited edition, nostalgia ultra, artisanal perfection, handcrafted digital art and an NFT raffle on a sustainable blockchain. ✨💖💎
And stay tuned for the event in Berlin... July 1st - Reichenberger Str. 177 - Balkon 1. Etage 🌚
When I started my practice I believed deeply that matchmaking and finding perfect collaborations can be one of my skills. I think this one pretty much nails it. My friends Carlson from SUNS CARE and Tristan from MC1R magazine are a match made in heaven and have created this lovely product: an SPF50 sunscreen for redheads (and everyone that is into well-designed holiday accessories). My job was basically to let them match, the rest of the projects is their sweat and creative minds. Love it, and you will too!
CURRENT CURRENTS CURRENCY by Bermeitinger & Carsten Rabe
Just yesterday was the opening of a new exhibition by my dear friend Uwe Bermeitinger and his partner Carsten Rabe. As part of the Phototriennale Expanded, the exhibition "Current Currents Currency" questions and depicts the new value of photography with several special guests and photographers. Alongside the exhibition, Uwe will release a special zine covering all works: NO FUCKING TITLE. My friend Finn and I had the honor of contributing all the texts you can find inside the magazine. Which btw is a climate neutral, vegan publication and still transports the street vibe of a classic zine. Definitely worth checking it out. If you're in Hamburg, you can visit the exhibition at Raum Linksrechts until June 18.
Another project of a friend of mine that is worth checking out and keep an eye out for: Delphi Zero. Art Lapinsch decided it is time to change the narrative on the climate crisis for a non-scientific crowd. As he states it "That’s why Delphi Zero was born: To inspire more people to participate in the boldest odyssey of our time: Our Journey to Net Zero"
Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter and stay in the know. Spread the word - we need everyone to smoothen the climate.
P-O-O-L.xyz
After Seasons is before POOL! Finally a rental service for designer clothing and street wear in Germany. And these guys from Berlin seem to make everything right: the look, the approach, partnering with the likes of Highsnobiety and others – this has the potential to be a great alternative. Own less and try this new local fashion service. "Wear as long as you want, swap whenever." Worth giving it a try if you're in Berlin and keep an eye out for their panels as well.
Aimé Leon Dore London Flagship
One of the hottest brands right now has to be Aimé Leon Dore. For years now, Teddy Santis wows us with amazing pieces of clothing and lookbooks that set new standards. And just today he and his team are back with another milestone: a London flagship store at 32 Broadwick St. – check out the video; it's truly amazing. Looking so so good. My favorite part is that it prominently features an artwork by Tyrrell Winston. The NY-based artist is one of my favorites. Recently copped his Reebok collab shoe. I love to see ALD team up with someone I adore.
GREEN MACHINE: A TMNT doc every fan should watch
If you grew up in the 80s or 90s there's a pretty good chance that you had not one but many toys of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And of course, you were addicted to both the cartoon on TV and the SNES game 'Turtles in Time'. These four characters really kicked off another level of pop culture, toy lines and merchandise. If it exists, there is TMNT merch of it haha. Anyway, it's so great to see what the two creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird came up with and how it's still going strong. This summer the long awaited Shredder's Revenge will drop and new shows are planned. This fan-made documentary covers over one hour of oldschool footage and tells the story of how it all came to be. Love it.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)
And yet another trip down memory lane with the boys: Chip 'n Dale (in Germany: Chip&Chap). You all remember the days watching the cartoon with a bowl of cereal and hearing that catchy theme song, right? As all oldschool series or films get a remake treatment, the Disney studio this time made something different. And it's a blast to watch from beginning to end. Never saw that much easter eggs, cameos and weird gags in a movie. They grew up with us and made an often-meta genius stand alone movie that celebrates everything we love and hate. A must see in 2022!
Busy Simulator
This has to be my worst nightmare. Fun fact: I turned off most of my notifications on laptop, iPhone and Watch to keep my mind straight and me sane basically. I have this tick, where I need to check every app once this little red circle pops up. It can drive you crazy. Anyway, this fun thingy called 'Busy Simulator' simulates the for me dystopian world of receiving endless notifications with all their annoying sound and all. But, this might as well help to act very busy in your 9-5 office in front of your co-workers and bosses.
Here Before A Million
We are blessed with so much good music lately, it's amazing to see how productive the artists were during the no-concert-covid-time. Just today, several of Ye protégés dropped projects and lots of new music comes flowing in: 070 Shake, Post Malone, KayCyy, Vory... I love to discover new music through Spotify, reddit, Instagram, recommendations, newsletters and the crazy YouTube algorithm. This side helps you discover new hits as before they hit a million views. Give it a try, it will calm your discovery lust for sure.
Patrick Cc: The Death of the bizarre Clout Chase Era
On the other end of getting discovered are clout chasers; forcing virality and discovery at any cost. I can highly recommend yet another YouTube channel: Patrick Cc. He frequently covers stories and documentaries about underground rappers and how they emerged from Soundcloud to festival stages. This time he covered people that, maybe are inspired by Jackass-stunts and cloud rappers, and just do stupid sh*t to get internet fame. Gladly this all came to an end... for now. It's always nice to see how things pop out of nowhere, spread across the web and then sustain or go down badly. Remember the Island Boys? :D Exciting to see, what's next – you'll find it here.
TOBI.ENERGY PRINTS
If you're interested in some of my personal photographic work from my journey last year to LA click here to have a look at the prints that are available for purchase.
The first photos have started shipping thanks to Jochen Lauscher and gallery Saitling. The results are beautiful! 🥰
I hope you feel inspired or energized in any way by this newsletter and make the most of it!
Get out there, but protect your energy.✨
The next interview issue will hopefully drop on July 1st. With a guest from South Korea. I keep you posted!
I will keep doing the Energy Sources in between Energy Transmission issues to fill the void.
Maybe. We'll see.
See you. 🫂
