650 Tins Later: Q1 at Tinventory
What’s taken shape so far—tins, reviews, and early patterns.
Hi all,
Garrett here from Tinventory.
Now that we’ve wrapped up our first quarter, I wanted to share a few things we’ve been seeing as people start logging, reviewing, and discovering more tins.
It’s been especially great to see the response since first sharing Tinventory. The tinned fish community is clearly growing, as evidenced by increased online discussions, new specialty shops, and even tinned fish bars. It’s exciting to see that same energy reflected on the site.
In our first three months:
• 650+ tins cataloged across 150+ brands and 30+ countries
• 550+ written reviews
• 160+ members joined
What’s been most interesting is how quickly reviews are outpacing new tins. People are eating through their hauls!
Community highlights
A big shout-out to a few standout Tinventories from the first quarter:
• Emtyach (77 reviews → now over 100 tins reviewed)
• Wolf13 (58 reviews)
• Eater of Fish (34 reviews)
As of today, Emtyach is the first member to pass 100 tins. It’s an incredible milestone this early on. Congrats!
What we’re seeing so far
After only 3 months, some patterns are starting to emerge:
• Fishwife leads as the most reviewed brand, with strong marks across flavor, texture, and quality - although value is a common point of debate
• Fangst, Nuri, and José Gourmet are among the highest rated brands, with standout tins like Fangst’s trout, Nuri’s spiced mackerel, and José Gourmet’s curry mackerel
• Sardines in olive oil remain the most common (and reliable) choice, followed by sardines in tomato sauce
A few things to try
If you haven’t explored these yet:
• Use our Glossary to better understand different terms and styles
• Generate a Stats Card from your profile to visualize your patterns
• Share a Review Card if you want to highlight a specific tin
Tinventory started as a way to replace the spreadsheets and Notes apps people were using to track their tins. It’s quickly becoming a shared record of tastes, preferences, and experiences.
We’re still early, but it’s exciting to see real patterns start to emerge, and even more exciting to see a community forming around them.
If you’ve been meaning to log your tins, now’s a good time to start. The data may surprise you.
Thanks again for being part of it.
Garrett
