Etymology. From Latin 'granum,' meaning grain, referring to its speckled texture, combined with 'counter,' a word with roots in Middle English 'contouren,' to arrange. Ironically, it refuses to be rearranged.

The newly installed granite countertop was so thiccc, it made the island look like it was on probation.
