Mango, Honey Ataulfo

1. A mango cultivar distinguished by its diminutive stature and remarkable breadth, often found lounging in ceramic bowls as if on a chaise longue.

2. colloq. Fruit that refuses to be mere garnish, commanding center stage in any culinary lineup it graces.

Etymology. From Spanish mango, through Portuguese and Malay, ultimately from Tamil māṅgāy. 'Ataulfo' honors Ataulfo Morales Gordillo, a Mexican agronomist who popularized the variety. Honey, because 'nectar of the gods' was taken.

The thiccc Honey Ataulfo mango sat in the bowl like it owned the place, daring other fruits to measure up.
