Friday Flash Fiction - Scooter Serenade
Her name was Clara. He couldn't quite figure out how to approach her, so he wrote her a letter comparing her to the solar scooters that zipped through the city's sunlit streets. He described how they hummed with electric life, gliding effortlessly over the solar-panelled paths. Clara, he wrote, was like those scooters—efficient, graceful, and always moving forward.
In his letter, he spoke about how when he unhooked a scooter from the docking station near the community garden, it was as if it whispered promises of adventure in his ear. Just as he would pick a scooter and accelerate, feeling the wind in his hair and the city's energy in his veins, he felt a similar excitement whenever he saw Clara. Her presence conveyed a sense of excitement and vitality that captivated him.
He confessed how he wished to ride with her through the city's winding streets on one of those crisp, sunlit mornings before the day's heat kicked in, with no destination in mind. They would cruise aimlessly through the leafy streets until they found a kitchen they wanted to try or a particularly beautiful, tucked-away garden to sit in and feed grain to the galahs and king parrots.
Whenever he saw her moving through the aisles at the pantry, he continued (he was up to page 3) that she was moving efficiently, with a clear destination in mind. Much like a scooter's sleek design, Clara carried herself with a sense of style and simplicity, captivating and practical. Her movements were fluid, mirroring the scooter's graceful glide through the sunlit streets.
And her energy! Her infectious vitality! The way she carried people from mundane to active enthusiasm! (He suspected he was laying it on a bit thick now, but his pen wouldn't stop.) Just as the scooters brought a sense of adventure to his daily commute, he finished with a flourish, Clara infused the everyday task of picking up food with excitement, and he would love to see more of her.
Of course, he never heard back from her, and he now had to trek to the pantry in the next cluster when he needed supplies.
