This is a bit off-topic with regard to this essay, but I’d simply like to thank Ms Lavin for her WILD FAITH. I’d also observe that as exclusively stupid and barbaric as the Christian Rights ‘ beliefs and behaviors often appear, every religious belief that fantasizes about the behaviour and purity of any deity is simply delusional. The Christian Right could never have existed without origins in Christianity itself. Until we remove every religion from our society’s lives, we will always be vulnerable to the insanity of extremist groups. This is as evident in the Christian world as it is in the Jewish and Muslim worlds. Letting mainstream religions off the hook is therefore an irresponsible cop-out.
