The Leftover Plastic Cups

“Hm, what are these plastic cups from?” asked Bunny.
“I don’t know, maybe they are from a party,” suggested Frog.
Bunny pulled a beat-up plastic bag from under the counter in the laundry room. In it were some sippy-cup style cups, some smaller clear plastic cups, and some standard red drinking cups probably for grownups.
Bunny put the whole mess in her car and drove off to the school. She put the cups next to the other art supplies on the desks, and waited for the kids.
The kids came tumbling in, and immediately went for the cups. They also went for a ball of yarn, and started cutting long pieces from it. Now they wanted to attach the string to the cups, because this is what you do with string and cups, everybody knows that.
Iguana decided the best way to do this was to make a hole in the cup, and started jabbing the bottom of a cup with kid-scissors, which was not working. Bunny quickly took over this task and figured out how to make a hole with a pencil instead, which was much safer and less sharp. Now Bunny had the job of putting little holes in the bottoms of cups for pretty much the rest of the class time.
Turtle got out tape, and glue, and everyone started attaching the ends of the yarn to the cups by any means necessary. They strung the yarn out all across the rug, and got tangled in each other’s projects. Hamster found that the string would not necessarily stay in place with just tape, and so added some more glue for emphasis.
Chameleon, though, stayed in one corner with her cup, and made a beautiful little “lantern” by adding beads and a pipe cleaner. Then it was time for Chameleon to go home.
After a while it was time for all the kids to go home, and off they went, with their tape and glue and cups and pipe cleaners and yarn.
By the time Bunny packed up the art supplies for the next week, there were no more cups.

May you find some leftover plastic cups, may you make one of those cup-and-string things that doesn’t work (or does it), won't you be my neighbor? - Betsy
