On Digging a Hole
"Wherever we go, we are friends" -Sloth and Manatee

One time I was driving on my way to go teach, and I started counting the various covers and lids and stuff in the street, and there were SO MANY. Like, everywhere. Gobs of little circular lids leading to some sort of something underneath there. I could not keep track of it all.
When is the last time you dug a hole? Maybe in the sand on the beach? What a thing to do. All of a sudden you are uncovering another world. And it’s kind of precarious, because dirt or leaves or what-have-you keep falling in there, and you have to shore it up. Maybe after a little while of digging you find rocks that have been sitting there for centuries. Or a root, or who-knows-what else. Bugs!
You can dig a hole in your oatmeal, or in a pile of blankets, or the ice in the fridge, or your yard (although here in the US there’s this number 811 that is “Call Before You Dig!” because you know, water mains and things), or if you want to be conceptual, you can dig a hole in your miiiiiiind and put stuff in there. Space ships or something.

I got to visit one of my favorites last week, by Sam Gilliam. It’s at the University of Rochester Memorial Art Gallery. I just love this piece, and him.

Things Of The Week
A whole site about magnifying sand, which looks crazy when you do that! Amazing.
Here’s a site where you can put any picture behind a rainy window.
Drop some cars. They won’t hit the cows, promise. I like to pretend these are metal-eating cows.
