COMPELLING CHARACTERS.
Heavily influenced by starting the Coriolis Mercy of the Icons campaign, nevertheless, I’m fascinated by the wealth of characters in Emissary Lost and other adventures. Free League does NPCs well.
Starting with Last Voyage of the Ghazali, we now have several brilliant NPCs that drift in and out of the campaign.
BEWARE MILD SPOILERS
Sabetha Pour, a fixer, who paid well for the PC’s help but disappeared, along with some coffin-sized cargo boxes.
Komoro Vai, an arrogant, annoying fallen-on-hard times but still believes his own press Trader, who ends up double-crossing the PCs and the whole of the Ghazali.
Brother Ramas, a pacifist, but beholden to the Last Order of the Pariah, is a religious fanatic who holds, some fairly medieval approaches to blasphemers.
Khomina, a mystic, was saved from sacrificing herself and her followers into the heart of a sun, but what will she do now?
Brother Ramas in particular is typical of the grey shades of NPCs in Coriolis, not boring, but never simple, never black and white. It’s hard to trust NPCs in Coriolis, but appearances can be deceptive, everyone has a patron, and everyone looks to follow the path of their Icon, as well as the bidding of their Factions, life is complicated.
In the words of the Effekt podcast (an excellent resource for all things Coriolis, indeed all things Free League), every paragraph is an adventure hook, and doubly so for NPCs; rich, in-depth characters, you’ll come to love them, or love to hate them!
