Evocative environments.

Possibly because I’ve only recently played it, but I’m pondering a lot on Coyote and Crow.

Science Fantasy as an alternative history is imagined as an indigenous population develop far into the future
Coyote and Crow

At its heart, it imagines an alternate history, where a race and culture develops into the future, with subtle changes in religion, spirituality, nature and war.

To me, it is as simple as having exposure to a different voice, that I’d normally not hear. The Adanadi, is a strange, beneficial purple taint that arrived on a comet and alters the DNA of everything it touches, both accelerating progress and fundamentally changing the people and animals of this world. This becomes fundamental to character creation, as you choose your Path, an animal-fused progress path that gains you different abilities.

Whilst Coyote and Crow seek to rewrite our history, it does so by creating both a beautiful and exciting alternate world, one that heavily leans on the culture of the Indigenous population in North America - it’s a clever conceit and one that could be applied to any number of past historic civilisations.
