RPG WITH WELL SUPPORTED ONE-SHOTS.
Another easy one, I barely have to get the neurons off the couch, it’s The Dee Sanction, Adventures in Magick and Politics across Supernatural Tudor Europe.
This game paved the way for building a community on my Discord, The Raspy Raven. I’d forgotten I’d backed it to be honest, until a chance encounter on that there Twitter cajoled me into running it. When I first went to look, there was just the adventure in the rules, which was a multi-session, Lost In Translation, Ex Libris, that had been in an Orlanth Rex/Vex Podcast and the newly released Window of the Soul.
So I stepped through this magical Window into the turnip-strewn streets of Southbank, and when I’d finished running this adventure, for multiple groups, another adventure dropped, and another and so it went on.
All of these adventures were quite different in approach - a London race against time, a filthy wilderness crawl, a full on sandbox or should that be litter tray, a dungeon delve, a hell-bound house and folk horror!
It was a genius approach by Paul Baldowski, the game was popular enough in its own right, but I always think a game lives or dies based on the quality and quantity of its adventures - it screams, “Look! Look! See all the wonderful things I can achieve!!”. The Dee Sanction had quality and quantity in big steaming dollops, laid one after another. It certainly left its stain on me and after finally running them all, I set to work converting an old Thieves’ Guild scenario - The Duke’s Dress Ball and writing a couple of adventures myself.
Of course, now there is the core system that The Dee Sanction was based on, Sanction, so you can go out and write any amount of Wunderbar genres ans adventures for this very special game.
One day, once I pull my finger out or retire, I’ll release my homage to White Dwarf’s Open Box and The Dee Sanction, I did get as far as reviewing all of the above and sticking them into a draft, see below for proof, the words are a little rustic, but they get straight to the point. 🪓
