AN RPG WITH ‘GOOD FORM’
What! What! Some debate in RPG circles as to what ‘form’ means, but I’ve gone for a game that no one has nary a bad word to say about, Dragonbane.
In our gaming group, we call it the goldilocks of fantasy RPGs, not too crunchy, not too narrative... just right.
We’ve run the starter campaign and also playtested Windheim - The Horn of the Dawn and not Dawn of the Horn as I kept malapropism-ing, ooer missus. It suits what is quite a casual gaming group, I don’t have an obsessive love for fantasy RPGs but this gives me just enough flavour, story hooks and tactical options to keep me interested and not bogged down in tables and a myriad of feats and abilities that can slow combat turns to a crawl. Probably the biggest selling point for me as a player is the creatures, they are all wonderfully grim and nasty and especially the big bads, have a whole host of surprise attacks that make every battle interesting and challenging.
It looks like we may be taking a break from our Sunday WFRP4e campaign to get back into Windheim part two! Woohoo!!
