Project Cassandra
The first game of Cold War season on The Raspy Raven, what better way to kick off than psychics in 1960s Berlin.
A bit of background, it was the day before a speech by President J. F. Kennedy and our precogs had received a chilling vision, Kennedy's death by a sniper whilst visiting Berlin.
We began the mission in media res, on a flying rust bucket on the outskirts of Berlin, smoke filled our nostrils, our ears popped as the plane went into a dive. Entering the cockpit, we found the pilots dead, the cockpit ablaze, hit by anti-aircraft fire. My PC, Pfizer, was calm, reading his notes and observing the ground, this was not his bag, let the others with brawn and muscle fix things.
A combination of deft piloting and some help from agent Selena’s anti gravity powers saw us touch down in an old smuggler’s airfield, far from where we wanted to be.
The plane a write off we headed off on foot, no time to hide it, the clock was ticking, a rendezvous with Karl in a city centre bierkeller beckoned.
We waved down a trabbi and after a couple of minutes of pointless conversation our duplicative agent dispatched the driver and passenger with some well armed karate blows to the neck. Duplicative as in they can self replicate!
We eventually found our way across the border to the bierkeller, Pfizer had not been idle, searching through records he'd purloined from central archives, he had found a possible fly in the ointment, Mark D, head of operations in Berlin, but a lot of red flags, could he be a traitor?
Meanwhile we reviewed the vision; sniper, office block / backup assassin on a motorbike / president's speech tomorrow / crowds of over one hundred thousand. And a shadowy figure with psychic powers right on our tail, could it be Mark D?
Taking no chances we arrived at the bierkeller and requested Karl contact Mark D and bring him to the location. A short while later a bleary eyed Mark D entered, a verbal game of cat and mouse ensued whilst a sinister figure entered the back of the bar. As Selena and Pfizer turned to face him he grasped the metal staircase, his arm turning to iron as he waved it menacingly in front of him. Pfizer knelt down, palms flat on the floor and the floor started to wobble as their opponent sunk waist deep into it. Pfizer released his hands and the floor solidified again, trapping the man as he ineffectually swung his arm. Selena doused him with water and then heaved a toaster at him, sparks flew, the aroma… unpleasant.
Back in the bar, Mark D had admitted his part, accident or not, in the operation taking place tomorrow.
Now it was clear there were no interruptions, the next day the team placed themselves where they could best thwart the enemy. A thousand duplicated agents stormed the office, looking for the sniper, booby traps went off and it slowed the attack, the sniper got one shot off as he was buried under a sea of bodies.
Selena and Pfizer were in the VIP section, as the shot arrowed towards the president, Selena slowed it down her powers of gravity manipulation causing strange occurrences as various dignitaries floated upwards. The bullet slowed, Pfizer became intangible rushing through the crowd like a ghost, becoming tangible again as he barrelled into the president, knocking him to the floor, as the bullet sailed over head. Lastly, the backup assassin was thwarted as an invisible Maximina rammed into him.
An excellent one shot of this fun game, some unique and very satisfying mechanics that encouraged us to improvise some fun scenes that the GM and designer set up for us.
