Gumshoe and Pelgrane Virtual Con 2024, Part 2
Gumshoe and Pelgrane Virtual Con 2024, Part 2
Moving on to The Fall of Delta Green and Mr Fabio, a Raspy Raven regular GM pulled out all the accents for his 1960s investigation into a hippie cult. The scenario is On a Bank by Moonlight. You can still get this free scenario, released as part of RPG Day in 2018.
It's hard to talk through this without giving away major spoilers, but it seems the group dived into the initial investigation with aplomb. Then things started to fall apart, as the authorities muscled in on the action and everything went to hell. Luckily no one was badly injured and apart from a major ear-bashing from their superiors, the group could class this as a marginal success. Much kudos to Fabio for his North American drawl in portraying the hippies at the commune.
Next, we found our way to the 13th Age via Joseph Conrad's The Heart of Darkness this was a real improvisational tour de force from Ariel. He took us on a sentient airship, Skyhelm, across the wastes of this land, where humans are also known as Clammies due to their pink, sweaty hands constantly grabbing at each other and even strangers. But the human lands were an essential visit, for it was here that Sorcerite was found, a rare mineral that powered all magic. It was though a source that had stopped its transport from the human lands to the rest of the world, so it was that this brave group set out to understand what had happened.
The inventiveness of this partly improvised scenario continued, as we anchored the Skyhelm to visit human settlements, learning more and seeing various Machiavellian plans uncovered, until a showdown with a deranged elven commander - Kurtaliz, who had found a unique and horrific way to power the Sorcerite, but that tale is for another time.
On to the end of part 2, we had an age-old favourite, Trail of Cthulhu now the oldest Gumshoe game, given that The Esoterrorists and Fear Itself have brand new second editions. Fear not though, coming soon there will be crowdfunding for Trail of Cthulhu the second edition!
On to Exit Wound, this is a scenario set in the Cthulhu City setting by Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan, a corrupted, odd Arkham-based world, heavily drawing from hardboiled, noir fiction.
Thanks to Lisa for running this fantastic con scenario, as Jana mentioned, "Cthulhu City... a place where rats are everywhere, cars move like insects and corrupted monsters lurk behind your neighbour's eyes."
The group tried to make a positive start, dining well using council funding, reading poetry and ogling the green jewellery on show. But as the mystery unfolded, they slowly saw the vastness of their task and how ultimately they could only hope to make a small difference to the weird power of Cthulhu City.
It seems this setting made an impression on the players, it was new to many of them, so it was great to allow a large group to surreptitiously tread its pavements.
Here ends part two, the final part will cover Moon Dust Men, The Yellow King RPG, Timewatch, The Esoterrorists and Fear Itself.
A Note on The Raspy Raven:
If you want to try out new TTRPG games, perhaps look at joining The Raspy Raven Discord we'd love to have you be part of one of our seasons.
If you are a member of our Discord, we now have a ko-fi tip site, a bit of an experiment to cover the costs of moderator and session scheduling bots and to hopefully increase our boosts to make the server look a bit more presentable and the games to have higher quality audio.
So if you can spare £1 or more, thank you again, but more importantly thank you for reading and being a part of the community.
