2024 McCfesto Part One
2024 McCfesto Part One
Here we go for a Raspy Raven and jwmuk proposal of games to write, run and play, inspired in no small part by Neil oldscouserrping who did a brilliant rundown of his 2023 plans and how they turned out... plus Paul Mitchener's Mitchfesto, a fantastic thread of his RPG ideas, ideals, principles, likes and thoughts. Both are well worth your time.
So I've decided to be a bit more specific and braver in setting out what I want to achieve myself in 2024 and I've split it into games I want to run, games I want to play in and community events on The Raspy Raven. Let's see this time next year, how it all turns out. So, for part one...
Games I Want to Run
All year I'll be running the remainder of Robin D. Laws Cassilda's Song campaign, for The Yellow King RPG, a weekly jaunt. We have a fantastic group of players and have recently completed the Paris segment. Now on to The Wars and hopefully some parallel playtesting of This is Normal now.
January - I am writing Arcimboldo Syndrome, a Fear Itself seed from Robin D. Laws, also known as Four Seasons in One Head, but only by me! It's for Gumshoe Season II and I need to crack on with it. It's about diseases, fruiting bodies, the Everglades, missing people and I've converted it into The Esoterrorists, so PCs are more able agents, expect something nasty moving through the swampy glades in early February.
February - I am going to try and finish my Yellow King RPG adventure, Visible Forms, featuring in the background Gustave Courbet, a realist, revolutionary and producer of some incredible art, like The Wave and The Desperate Man. I've written a full skeleton of it and have playtested the first 1/3, so I want to rewrite and deepen some of the ideas and playtest the remainder. Utilises a protagonist from The Legions of Carcosa, a must-have book. Maybe, I'll even get it released if and when the Yellow King RPG becomes part of the Gumshoe Community Content licence.
March - Okay now I need to switch from Gumshoe to Trophy Dark, I'm using Michael Van Vleet's very helpful Trophy Dark template. The theme is IRON, seven of us are taking one of the Ancient Seven Wonders and improvising or writing a Cthulhu Dark, Cosmic Dark or Trophy Dark game, so much thanks goes to Graham Walmsley, Jesse Ross and Jason Cordova. My seven wonder is COLOSSUS. It's a more traditional dark fantasy, using the Trophy Loom book, but it could easily have been any of several genres. As of December 2023, I've got a skeleton for each of the five rings, all the moments and about a 1/5 of the conditions - lots more work to do. This will be for a mini-season on The Raspy Raven in April 2024.
April-December - Things get a little more tenuous but high up on the agenda will be running Sanction, The Electric State, Index Card RPG, Mythic Bastionland (The Shadow Realms of Baccatis), Reboot the Future, Swords of the Serpentine, Tales from the Loop, Project Cassandra, Out of the Ashes, Matrons of Mystery, Blade Runner and Knave. It's a good opportunity to run some of these face-to-face at cons, especially Concrete Cow, Owlbear and the Wizard's Staff, GrogLaw and Grogmeet.
May-August is likely a gaming break, just picking up on some random or ad-hoc games, hopefully will ask and support folks on the Raspy Raven to run stuff, I'm hearing loads of homebrew, Good Society, The One Ring, Drama System/Hill Folk, Call of Cthulhu, OSR and Dragon Warrior days. Hopefully, this period combines with more writing, as we get into the September-November con season.
December recharge!
I also want to run some solo RPGs and write these up - I'm in the process of running Lunar Shadow Design's Numb3r Stations and will then turn my attention to Entity and Cyan Starlight.
That's it for Running, next time, I'll go over the stuff I want to Play in 2024.
