The Meaning Gap attempts to make sense of the human experience by accepting that there is no objectivity on "what something is". Everything is relative to perspective. I want to build a foundation for reasoning about reality where unique perspectives are fundamental rather than inconvenient edge cases.
Through this newsletter I want to explore the deep implications of this view. How it affects not just communication, but reasoning, science, how we relate to life, how to reconcile meaning and information theory, and the unique role of languages in mediating that space.
I believe we suffer unnecessary conflict and confusion by not acknowledging the depth of differences between our individual realities and that understanding meaning better can help us bridge these gaps.
My research is motivated by the belief that it's possible to model meaning in the digital space and therefore build tools that help us bridge different realities while embracing their uniqueness. This means that I'll be attempting to ground abstract ideas into technical definitions. It will be a game of language, of redefining concepts on new foundations precise enough for implementation. Because of it each post builds upon previous ones, I recommend reading them chronologically.
I invite you to actively join me in this exploration by sharing your thoughts and keeping the logic, clarity and accessibility of this ideas in check. ♥
