TL;DR: New issues; probably don’t read 8

Hello, fellas,

I am the editor of the humble newspaper whose newsletter you’ve subscribed to here, and I know that you haven’t heard from us in a good long while.

To be completely frank, our schedule was messed up after issue 7. We’ve aspired to a monthly publishing cadence since our first issue, and even with our relatively short issues—averaging about 10–15 pages—we’ve often struggled to meet deadlines. Then we put forward a massive issue, which was in total 41 pages, of which about half was citations, so only really 20 content pages.

Issue 7 messed us up pretty good. Issue 6 was a slog to get through, and then issue 7 put us behind schedule by around 2 months—we’ve never since recovered. And, well, these two issues sort of reflect that. I personally am probably the cause of a lot of these delays—but you’ll hear all about that in issues 9 & 10, so I mustn’t dwell on that here.

Issue 8 is one page, and is really nothing of substance. It exists purely for numerical reasons; issue 10 is likely our last [official] issue, and so I really wanted our “big”, “best” issue to be on a round number: 10. Issue 9 was issue 8 before, and has been mostly done since June, but I’ve been procrastinating a few tiny tasks, which meant it’s coming out now. I moved a few of Aleena’s articles from issue 9 to issue 8, and renamed the issue to issue 9, etc.—you get it, right?

Basically, issue 8 was never a thing, and for the sake I outlined a paragraph ago, we needed something. All our efforts are really being put towards issue 10, so we just threw together one page of nothing, really. Read it or don’t, but I’d say maybe don’t waste your time?

But that brings us now to issue 10. It’s the longest by far, and really rather shaping up well. For example, I don’t know if you follow me on Instagram (not likely), but I posted some photos I took for the issue—they far outstrip anything we’ve ever done in any other issue. And I don’t want to hype up issue 10 too much, lest it crashes and burns, but that feeling of better-than-ever, and more-than-ever should hopefully hold for the entirety of it. Issue 7 was our longest, and it was about 15,000 words long. In terms of unpublished pure content (so a smaller number, fundamentally) we have about 20,000+ words so far, and it’s growing because I’m not done with 3 of my articles yet.

We have 60+ pages of Google Docs, etc. Point being: get keen, because if you like The Gadfly at all, issue 10 is the landmark one that you should really be caring about. All the previous issues’ page count combined is 133 pages, and this would be exceeding half of that of in just pure content so far. But I shan’t spoil it all yet, so please, bear with us.

Anyway, sorry for the late issues—but at least you know why now.
