Volume 1, Issue 42 | Warm Harbor
Spring is here, and with it comes the yearly reminder that, like the budding branches on the trees out front, we renew and regrow each year. With the longer days we are reawakened by our cabin fever, our wanderlust, our hormones, our allergies. We feel love blossom again in our hearts and remember what a joy it is to eat and read and walk and pretty much do anything outside. We remember that that every 10 minute walk has the potential to be an hour-long ice cream adventure. We’re reminded that we’re gonna be ok, and it’s just that we each have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and that was a very hard winter.
We remember how fun it is to leave our caves, just like the animals, and meet the rest of the world in joyful rediscovery. We’re reminded that we should bring our inhaler to games with a lot of physical activity and that when we don’t we bring the team down. We’re reminded that if we wear shorts people are gonna say stuff like “wow, look at those gams!” and then we might, indeed, look down at our own gams. Look at them. Look at them, indeed.

Happenings
This week:
Moonlight Report, Monday, March 31
Moonlight members only (for now). This is where Moonlighters show off work from the last lunation and commit to projects for the next lunation. Interested in joining a social club for side projects based around the cycle of the moon where lots of money is (optionally) on the line? Reply to this email.
(The meeting has already happened so you’re far too late to join, but this section left for posterity.)
Mary Ann’s Book Club: The Other Significant Others, Monday, March 31
A book club switching between fiction and non-fiction. This month’s book is The Other Significant Others: Reimagining Life with Friendship at the Center, by Rhaina Cohen.
Snacks and drinks will be provided to fuel our conversation.
$0–$10
(The meeting has already happened so you’re far too late to join, but this section left for posterity.)
Talk to your friends about friendship →
Survival Scouts Monthly Meeting: Tuesday, April 1
Hosted by Lexi, Survival Scouts is a brand new club where we’ll imagine and prepare for possible futures, together.
It’ll be a combination of doomsday prepping, off-grid training, and anti-capitalist homesteading. On the docket: food canning, gun safety, basic cybersecurity, rainwater collection, how to pack a go-bag when you have pets, knot-tying, clothes repair, food foraging, self-defense, and more.
Weekly Wednesday Worknight, Wednesday, April 2
The Company is about combining creative work with good friendships. Make an appointment with your side project this (or any*) Wednesday at a Worknight, where we oscillate between enforced, focused, quiet time and optional chatty social time.
$5, or free for Company and Moonlight members.
*Note: There will be no Worknight on April 23 due to In The Making.
Cuppa Clothing Swap, Saturday, April 5
Cuppa (our resident coffee cart) is hosting an all-gender clothing swap! All are welcome—bring a friend, bring a partner, bring your mom!
PowerPoint Party No. 25, Saturday, April 5
What’s a PowerPoint Party, you ask? Twelve people giving 7-minute presentations about whatever they’re currently into. At past parties, people have presented about knives, dating, and the history of depictions of biblical beheadings. It’s a wide mix.
It’s a nerdy and sincere crowd that cares a lot, and we’ve met some of our favorite people at these.
Want to present? We’ve got a waiting list. Want to just show up and meet interesting people and learn about what’s fascinating them lately? That’s great too. Bring a friend, or come alone and make a friend.
Note: Cuppa will be open during this event!
$10, or free for members and presenters.
Future Weeks:
Offsite: April Block Party, Sunday, April 13
Friend of The Company Max Lotstein is hosting an EDM dance party on April 13 and it’s open to everyone. Some of us are going and so should you!
Glint: Fool, Tuesday, April 15
True, personal stories, told live, without notes. Pretty much exactly like The Moth except without the competition, on Tuesdays instead of Fridays, and everyone knows each other (or is about to). Our next theme is “Fool“, and we’ve got a few storyteller slots left.
Do you have a story of being foolish? A time when you lacked good judgement? Of interacting with a foolish person? Of playing the fool? Fooling around? Tricking someone? Falling for something? Whatever your interpretation, we want to hear it.
$10, or free for tellers and members.
Prom, Saturday, April 19
In the fall we had a Homecoming dance. Now It’s spring, so we’re having a Prom! The theme is Garden Party. More details to come, but save the date, and get a date.
Nostalgia
Do you remember the flurry of Paperwork? How we scrambled to pick photos and shoot the data visualization before rushing to the offsite spy training?
How we arrived and signed in and stretched? Made a cheer tunnel for Jim? That we all held hands to walk in? How some of us were trying to earn the most points and others of us were just trying to have the most fun? How everyone won?!
How we finished Paperwork the next day?
Justin’s slightly more official good news? How it prompted the long afternoon of celebration? How we finally made it to Cart Driver, then came back for cake? Two official uses of party hats in one week? How we sang happy birthday twice and only once in unison? Lexi’s impromptu line dancing class for so long in between?
Do you remember the finale of our months-long Severance watch parties? The early start, and the appearance of Jacob? The stunning ending, the red credits, and how we all yelled at Jessica when she exited and then muted them? The resolving of the bingo cards?
What about that day of meetings? The lunch about men and vulnerability and star charts?
The laptop run? How we set up for In the Making across the whole day?
Do you remember seeing all those heartfelt projects? The images made and found? How we met a whole chain of friends? How we lingered, successfully celebrated trash day, and mostly reset the room?
That we walked outside to leave and stood agog looking at the blooming flowers?
That last day of overlap? The walk I had to miss? How long it took Michelle to leave? The flowers above us, and the springtime ice cream?
Do you remember the Wednesday Worknight with all of the talking?! The dreaming of what the Kissing Room can be and the bestowal of abilities to make it so?! The sending of an/THE email?? The second coming of Jacob?! Do you remember how we didn’t make a star but it was okay?
Do you remember the installation day? The hammer drill? The dreaming? The craigslist of it all? The unearthing of rugs? The worries of a bubble crash?
Bureaucratic Minutiae
Week three of the Company Cleanup Initiative™ continues on with great success, with Alex and Jim making tremendous investments like installing acoustic paneling and shelving units in our storage rooms. And again, we thank them.
We have moved all public drinks to the newly named “Drink Fridge,” a miniature fridge in the space. If you’re thirsty, this is a great place to look. Filtered water remains in the full-size fridge.
With Ivan and Livvy back, there remains one (1) open desk for use in a first-come first-serve basis, until it becomes a reserved desk. As always, drop in visitors are encouraged to use our community tables and couches at their leisure.
At In the Making: Emma shared about using an old camera, Gabby showcased her first brand kit, Elliot solicited advice for a perfect government, Sarah shared forgotten artifacts, Juniper walked us through making prints, and Chris talked about tools for creativity.
At Worknight: Ivan and Dan selected four portfolio projects, Dan sent an email, Jacob moved history simulation code to a new project, Livvy made two drawings, and Alex tried to work too hard.
Finally, a reminder that The Company is a member-supported gathering place, and if you know any of us, you’re welcome to pop in any time for free (outside of events). If you know that one of us is here and you’d like to come by, reach out and we can let you in.
Do you know anyone in the Denver area who might be looking for creative community? Feel free to forward this email along to them. Everyone loves Paperwork.
