vol. 2, no. 5 | Hives
It was a momentous week here at The Company. I got a website launched, there was a double rainbow (did you see it??), a tortoise meeting, a new gym routine, my sister popped into town, Michelle got stuck in a cave, there were two cases of hives and three cases of intense sleepiness, we had a First Friday Feast again, some people went to an emo night, and then, finally, after a very long hiatus, Justin hosted his yearly play-through-of-games-that-he-published-back-when-he-was-a-board-game-publisher.
Thankfully though, there were far fewer photos to sift through.

Happenings
This week:
Glint: Crossroads, Tuesday, June 17
True, personal stories, told live, without notes. Pretty much exactly like The Moth, except without the competition, on Tuesdays instead of Fridays, and everyone knows each other (or is about to). Our next theme is “Crossroads“, and we’ve got two storyteller slots left.
Do you have a story of a big decision? A turning point? A time when you made an irreversible, or reversible choice? A brief moment of connection? A story about literal roadways? Whatever your interpretation, we want to hear it.
Hear from Beth Bogdeweicz, Marcia Mueller, Allyson Amanda, Madison Kuebler, Jim Bauer, Fer Uriegas, Jessica Prinsen, Mark Gabriel, and Katie Ganser.
$10, or free for tellers and members.
Note: Cuppa will be open during this event!
This will be worth crossing the road for →
Weekly Wednesday Worknight, Wednesday, June 18
The Company is about combining creative work with good friendships. Make an appointment with your side project this (or any) Wednesday at a Worknight, where we oscillate between enforced, focused, quiet time and optional chatty social time.
$5, or free for Company and Moonlight members.
Creative Coding Demo Day No. 12, Saturday, June 21
Demo days are where people share creative coding projects at any state of progress—or just watch people give demos. They’re relaxed events where people can get to know each other (and their projects).
Norton’s been hosting these for a few years and they’re how we met Mason and Trevr and Jacob and Will and Alex.

Also coming up: In The Making (June 26), Mary Ann’s Book Club (June 30).
Nostalgia
Do you remember the salsa class with so many dropouts? How Patrick stood in for Jess, and we learned how to twirl in new ways? How wildly fun it was to twirl and be twirled, the surprising centrifugal force?
How afterward, when we stepped outside, there was the most vibrant double rainbow Livvy has ever seen? How we cheered and stared and pointed and saw others along 15th street look up?
How we briefly danced in formation, doing the ‘cross, cross, Susie Q,’ until we got too self-conscious dancing past the people at Dime Store? (Did you notice how, in some ways, it was kind of like we had learned a waggle dance?) How we were at first so dismayed to see that there was no Salty O in the secret shortcut line at Little Man Ice Cream, but then relieved to learn that they were out of Salty O in the huge long line also? How every single one of us got Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Cup instead?
Do you remember Patrick’s cooking adventure? Or Beth’s first recess? Or the walk to our landlord’s house next door? How great the garden tour was, how we finally met Beagle (the tortoise), that we heard all those stories about all of those people and places and connections in common?
The day with my sister?
The recess walk that Mike was briefly on before abandoning us? How on the walk, Livvy mentioned Justin, and Alex said “I remember Justin,” in a voice that made it sound like he had been gone for a year?
Do you remember how some of us found enlightenment, and all of us found that cool patio?
Do you remember how goofy we got on that Wednesday afternoon? How Jim played “Warriors” by Too Many Zooz, which meant that we had to listen to a 6-minute audio documentary?
How some of us went to see The Phoenecian Scheme and some of us stayed for Worknight?
The art night at Allyson’s?
The hives? The quiet, conversation-carded lunch?
How Beth struggled to stay awake on the couch, as I casually announced customers?
The First Friday feast? Our return, after months, to bartaco? The charming server, the reliably good UX, and the reliably good food? How Livvy was brave and tried gazpacho? How Norton got to tell that absurd story about the couch on fire?
The emo night?
The protests?
How the sun set as you played through Justin’s oeuvre?
Bureaucratic Minutiae
At Worknight: Alex read four pages of his book, finished a photo upload experience, and trekked to and from REI; Patrick worked on fixing desync, went to the gym, and (I think ate) food; Jessica S. implemented a custom search component, and Livvy did something for [redacted].
We are relieved to report that Alex has dropped his suit against The Company for the lack original music credit in the last PowerPoint Party outro, apologized for in the last issue.
Finally, a reminder that The Company is a member-supported gathering place, and if you know any of us, you’re welcome to pop in any time for free (outside of events). If you know that one of us is here and you’d like to come by, reach out and we can let you in.
