• Madeleine’s Creative Writing Workshop is tonight, July 13, and the theme is Meaning, which might be helpful for anyone last-minute working on their Glint stories, because:

• On July 25, there will be a special post-Cuppa-closure event where Beth will be selling many items (furniture, merch, and equipment) at a discounted price.
• Mary Ann’s Book Club is reading Yesteryear for the next discussion on Monday, July 27.
• Offsite: On July 28, Madeleine’s alter ego, Eve Addams, is co-hosting a performance slam called Love, Death & Roses at The Bug Theater. 12 performers will compete head-to-head (bracket style) across 3 rounds (2, 3, and 4 minutes) for a prize of $150. Judges will decide who advances to the next round by throwing roses, and all kinds of performance art—music, storytelling, poetry, dance, standup—is fair game. As long as you don’t use any glitter. $15, or free (after reimbursement) for performers. (There’s also a 4 ticket bundle for $50)

It is too hot for an outdoor recess, so we stay inside. Mark, Madeleine, and Christof help Livvy sort time cards into their respective Fibonacci piles, while I try to think of a Paperwork intro. Livvy mock-yells “you can’t count out loud at a counting party!” to Mark (who was counting out loud, and for whom this activity is a kind of nightmare). Christof reminds us of Earl’s ice cream backstory, prompted, I think, because Madeleine and Mark eat freezer ice cream in between cards. The conversation transitions to old clothes. Mark still has jerseys he wore when he was nine years old, that still fit him, that he sometimes sports at his yearly Winter Footy event, back home in Atlanta. I share my theory about how a certain recreational sports league is a money laundering scheme, and how one should only ever need two of their shirts. We see Tess’s time card and talk about Hearthstone, and Adam, and old amusement parks. We try to decipher a hard-to-read name. We appreciate how the table where we sit is just a little bit cooler than the rest of the room, being closer to the ACs with a fan overhead. Everyone counts. Some more than others.

Bureaucratic Minutiae

• Jessica S. washed the Brita containers and replaced the filters.
• The Company is now in possession of a cutting board and knife, technically property of the Ruiz-Knotts.
• Adam has lent a monitor to the hot desk that previously housed a monitor of Trevr’s.
• At Worknight: (r)MAB readied Ridwell recycling; Ivan investigated interpolation issues; Jessica S. washed the Brita filters and wrote and validated one query; Ryan completed one more room; Livvy sorted and uploaded Italy photos to Drive; and Sylvia talked Salon deets and decided to do the improv intensive, among other things. • Attendance data for June

  We have a time clock. Partially because, hey, we’re a Company! And mostly because we love having a physical record of (almost) everyone who’s been in the space. People punch in and out when they visit. At the end of each month, we stack up all the cards by visit count in the Fibonacci sequence. Here’s the data for June 2026:

  1 visit: 52 people
  2 visits: 10 people
  3–4 visits: 7 people
  5–7 visits: 7 people
  8–12 visits: 7 people
  13–20 visits: 4 people
  21+ visits: 0 people

  Total people: 87
  People who came more than once: 35

  Other notes:

  • Thanks to Madeleine, Christof, and Mark for helping to number and sort punch cards this month.
  • There are 7 visitors in the 3+, 5+, and 8+ columns.
  • No one was here in the 21+ column! The only other time that happened was in December of 2025.
  • June was a small month. This month, there were a total of 87 visitors. Compare that to last month, May, in which there were a total of 128 visitors, 82 of which visited only 1 time.
  • Yes okay Trevr we see you. Observers have remarked that they like how the top of the T kind of looks like it connects to the circle, and that the top of the E is not connected to the rest of the E. And Jim, we appreciate how your name seems to be getting more abstract month over month, and you can see it if you know, but can’t if you don’t.
  • The “Misc.” sub-column in the 1s included visitors to: The Creative Writing Workshop, the Denver Creative Code Meetup, Ivan’s Birthday Reading Show, and Mary Ann’s Book Club: Life After Cars.
  • Note: We don’t generally record visitors to Cuppa if they are only stopping in for Cuppa. Many people came through the space that are not represented here!

Nostalgia

Do you remember how some of us finally returned from trips away? And how nice it felt to be back to a life we so deeply appreciated?

The Empowerment Manual Book Club in the park? Beth’s treat of iced tea, and all the bugs we fended off? How we debated which kind of grass was the pokiest? How we talked about leadership and conflict, and made plans to all get into fights before, or at, the next session?

Or the lunchtime with question cards? The afternoon hail storm? The quarter block walk at recess, because the skies had cleared, but not enough?

Do you remember the five-year catchup with Emily, back in town for another round? How similar your reports were? Or the lunchtime Pictionary of religious iconography? The recess walk to ice cream? How in response to Emily’s question about how Cuppa is going, Beth said “It’s going great! I’m closing this weekend!”?

The second-to-last day of Cuppa? How the twins came in? How at lunch some of the table talked about kid stuff? How a lot of people came through but it stayed pretty quiet?

And do you remember Cuppa’s final day? How it felt like a reunion, or a wedding? How we were so many of us here, together, which we were always were, but it felt different? How we drank coffee and tea and chatted and laughed? How Dan, Michelle, and Allyson peeked through the door? That Mary Ann walked in just in time for the group photo, holding flowers, and she and we were just as surprised? That we remembered what it was like to meet? That we hugged, and it was too hot to hug? How Mike appeared, and Joe and Lauren, and Jim and Katie? Do you remember how Justin said “high five K”? The untangling of the yarn? How we all met Charlotte? Were you there with us till the end, when the clock turned two, and we cheered, and helped Beth take down one last time?

Do you remember how after all of that, a day already perfect, we went on to Overtime at Allyson’s? How it felt just like an art night?
