TBB: The Merry Month of May

The Beast Boutique The Beast Boutique

Happy May, and welcome back to TBB’s newsletter! I hope you’ve all been doing well!

To start, here’s what happened in April before we move onto May and the MotM:

  1. A quick celebration - our Youtube channel reached 700 subscribers last month! Ever since, I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to hit 1000 by my birthday in July - it’s a long shot, but we’ll see. Either way, if you’re one of the 700, thank you very much for hanging out with us over there!

I’ve also been livestreaming some of our digital modeling work. A lot of times I’m the only one in the stream, but I love having company if you ever want to stop by during a stream.

A photo collage showing four digitally sculpted projects.

First, a nomad sculpt workspace with a rooster figurine loaded into it. it has a tan body, with green modeled tail feathers, and newly sculpted feathers on its neck and chest.

Next, to the right, two sculpted chibi heads that resemble Nezuko from the manga/anime 'Demon Slayer,' with her hair tied to one side with a bow, delicate eyebrows, and her signature bamboo muzzle in her mouth. , one in greyscale, the other in color, giving her black hair, pink eyes and hairtie, and a green bamboo muzzle.

below the Nezuko chibis is a minimalistic cat loaded into it. the cat has been placed in a digitally sculpted hot dog bun, with mustard squeezes along its back. The cat, bun, and mustard are colored red, tan, and yellow, respectively.

below that, a rat figurine with a mermaid tail loaded into a digital sculpting program. The rat has a frill around its waist, and the tail fins have scalloped edges.

  2. Employee update: we had a very pretty bumblebee break into our house. The criminal stung Taboo before being detained in solitary confinement and released the following day. As a result of this “vicious attack,” Taboo developed an abscess and is currently on paid leave while he recovers. (Translation: he’s getting spoiled on hand-delivered cans of wet food.)

a photo collage. in one square, a photo of a fat bumblebee about to leave the tupperware it's been kept in. Below that, a photo of a black cat with a very swollen hind foot laying in a litter box. To the right, a photo of the same black cat with his back foot shaved, and wearing the cone of shame.
David vs. Goliath vibes.

Which brings us to May:

First, we’ll be vending at our first in-person event of 2026! If you’d like to see us and our work in person, stop by Tumbleroot Brewery in Santa Fe, NM from 2-6 on May 3rd!

A flyer from Tumbleroot Brewery for the First Sunday Market, May 3rd to 2-6 p.m.

The flyer is for official vendors to share!
We hope to see you there!

Second, May’s Model of the Month is the Bull!

This model has been difficult to produce reliably; frequent print failures, large overhangs, and delicate extremities require it to be assembled from multiple parts. Having overcome those obstacles (mostly), we’re excited to give it its moment in the spotlight. Plus, given that so much of May is Taurus’s month, the bull was a natural choice as we continue to work on other Zodiac animals. 😄

A collage showing three bull figurines with their heads lowered from multiple angles, all painted in different colors. One bull is painted iris purple, decorated with dark purple and gold polka dots and squiggly lines following the contours of its form. The next bull is painted in a dark blue gradient, nearly black along its back, and lighter near the feet. It has silver horns and eyes, a starburst on its forehead, and dots loosely representing the constellation 'Taurus' on its sides. Last, the bull is painted blue, pink, and white, blue on its back, pink on its middle, and white on its belly and legs. It's decorated with light blue and medium blue dots accenting the blue portion of the body, Light pink and medium pink dots on the pink portion, and white and silver dots on the white areas.

Third, happy Mer-May! For those unaware, Mer-May is an annual event in the art community where participants make daily mermaid-themed art! (For more info, click here for the official Instagram.) We don’t have the ‘umph’ to make a figurine a day, but I’d like to introduce you to the celebratory model, the mer-mouse!

a collage showing seven rat figurines with mermaid tails against white backdrops. starting at the top left and then moving clockwise. First, a rat with an orange tail covered in black and blue spots, with a grey, spotted body. Second, a grey rat with a purple tail. Third is a tan rat with a metallic blue tail. Fourth, a rat with a pink tail and a white body, and a pink nose and blush. Fifth, a phthalo green rat with a ripple texture painted onto its tail, and metallic green-gold markings at the edges of each ripple, and denoting its eyes, nose, and whiskers. Sixth, a dark blue rat with a purple tail. its tail has a blue stripe down the back and thin stripes running down along the side. Seventh and finally, a dark brown rat with a metallic green tail.

Precious mermeeses~

I had the idea to make mermaid animals last April but didn’t have time to do it before the event, so the project was shelved until this year. There were other kinds of animals planned too, but the mice are what got finished, and it feels like a job well-done to see them all together. (Personally, I love the green and brown one. It feels so ‘Little Mermaid’ to me.) There are seven of them available, so fingers crossed they enjoy a good reception this month, because I want to make more of these!

Additionally, subscribers to this newsletter (you!) will receive a special coupon to use on a mer-mouse of your choosing! This coupon will be good through the month of May, and basically makes the mer-mice a bonus MotM for our newsletter peeps, so keep an eye out for the incoming email containing your coupon code. 😁

For the rest of the month, I hope to focus in on finishing the pride sets that didn’t get completed in March, and to begin planning other restocks that have had to wait their turn. (This may include our Tiny Cats, which have been out of stock since last fall, but we will see.)

Now, I don’t think we have any birthdays to celebrate this month, so that’s all for this one! Thanks for reading, and we’ll catch you next time!
