TBB: October; happy, happy, happy!

The Beast Boutique The Beast Boutique

Happy October, happy autumn, happy rain, happy sweater season! Welcome back to TBB’s newsletter! September was a big month for us, so this one is going to be a little long.

September recap:

  1. Back in February, we were celebrating Baby John, who has been nothing by a disembodied clay head for the last ten years, receiving a corporeal form to call his own, and said “we hope to bring him to the shop soon.”

A collage showing the sculpture "Baby John" in various stages from 2016 to 2026. Baby John is a fantasy bull with an orange gemstone in his forehead, a lion-like mane, and a short, stout body.
Baby John’s evolution through the decade.

I’m pleased to say “soon” was still within 2026! After resolving to bring at least one finished “gem-bull” to the booth at the Ren Faire, I completed three of them! Each figure is comprised of four separate pieces (not including their eyes and gems) that have to be assembled and painted at different stages of the process. Figuring out how to make these happen was a real test of my abilities, and I am SO proud of them. (Of course, I’m already thinking of improvements I can make, but still! 🤪)

A collage showing the three fantasy bull calf figurines with lion manes. All of them are brown with golden gems in their foreheads, and left to right, their manes are light green, black, and light purple. the lower half of the collage shows the two with green and black manes touching noses.

(I’m currently working on a longform YouTube video showing the process of making them. If you’d like to see that when it’s up, you can subscribe here.)

  1. The Santa Fe Renaissance Faire was a wonderful success! We saw so many familiar faces, from fellow vendors to past customers, and our neighbors (New Mexico Fairy Hair!) were delightful. Thank you soooo much to everyone who came and supported us this year, and to the amazing staff and volunteers at El Rancho de las Golondrinas for making it all happen!

a collage of photos from the ren faire, including a selfie of us in our outfits, char getting fairy hair, a photo of our booth with it's new green and tan tent cover, two of our sleepy mushroom figurines, a dirt road with a large tree growing over it, the museum grounds at the end of the day underneath fluffy clouds, and me pulling the tent cover off the tent.
What an amazing weekend!
  1. The original pumpkin cat model is being discontinued. A new version that can stand up on its own will debut later this month. (Newsletter subscribers will get a new release coupon, so keep an eye out for that!)

a collage; the top half shows a black cat figurine standing next to a small pumpkin, with red arrows pointing to it and neon text that reads "boo this man."
below that image is a photo of an unpainted pumpkin between two similar cat figurines sitting back on their haunches. between them, also in neon letters, are the words "applause time."
I will miss his silly little t-pose.

Which brings us to October:

a collage of a sitting tuxedo cat figurine with green eyes from multiple different angles.

The sitting Taboo cat is the MotM! It’s a limited selection this month - just two figurines - but they seemed like an appropriate choice for the season! They’ll be 15% off until the end of October.

As for shows, we plan to be at Tumbleroot Brewery in Santa Fe, NM from 2-6pm on October 4th. This is our only scheduled show for the month, so if you’d like to see us in person, this will be your chance. We hope to see you there!

Finally, happy birthday month to my (Chet’s) Grandma Pat, one of our very first collectors! <3

a collage showing a small kangaroo figurine in someone's hand, a tapir figurine, also being held, and a white dragon with red horns and green freckles against a blue backdrop atop a faux snow drift, holding a vial of gold glitter as large as he is.
She bought some of our earliest pieces, seen above.
T-B, L-R: Kangasaurus Rex, Mrs. Tapioca, Sherman (named by grandma).

Thank you for all your support over the years, grandma!

And with that, that’s all for this time. Keep an eye out for the Halloween release, and thank you for reading. We’ll catch you later!

- Chet (and Char, who says hello!)
