╰┈➤ˎˊ˗Throughout the past several years, we witnessed the steady return of 2000s fashion. This included the styles Mcbling, grunge, and streetwear. An aesthetic by the name ‘Downtown girl’ was especially popular amongst social media platforms and even caught the attention of major brands. Hollister’s impact was significant; their iconic Y2K Vault drop reintroduced clothing with elements of the 2000s’ fashion designs. As we enter 2026, many wonder which styles would stay, resurface, and fade. Here are some of our fashion predictions for this year:
The ultimate rebrand, the year 2000. Due to previous years’ fashion choices surrounding the 2000s, we anticipate that nostalgic styles of the past will continue throughout this year. A major factor would be the pop star Zara Larsson and her Y2K aesthetic. Her persona revolves around bold colours, micro shorts, leg warmers, and flared jeans, which are all quintessential ingredients of the 2000s’ fashion. Alongside Larsson’s blooming music, her unique style continues to inspire the revival of Y2K fashion into 2026.
Goodbye plain, hello plaid; vivid colours and striking patterns are so in. Jazzy tights paired with low-rise skirts to highlight your inner whimsy, and lacy camisoles beneath turquoise sweaters to bring some fun. Stripes, plaid, and tartan have been gaining traction across social media, mainly due to rising star Pinkpantheress’s influence, with many even joking that the singer ‘invented plaid.’ Colour combinations such as coral and turquoise are resurrecting vibrant colours into the year. This unique synergy of colours quickly earned the public’s adoration and is growing increasingly popular.
Back in style — 2000s skate fashion. The media craves a nostalgia that emerges in fashion. As graphic designs successfully snuck back into our lives, many online have expressed their wishes to revive Y2K skate fashion. As seen in previous years, baggy jeans and jorts have already made their return. Now, it is time for a long-awaited style: T-shirts paired on top of long sleeved sweaters. In the 90s and 2000s, it was common to layer plain, white sweaters beneath baggy T-shirts with graphic designs. However, patterns such as stripes, and different colour combinations were also widely accepted.
This year, Y2K fashion is predicted to continue seeping into 2026 due to the public’s longing for nostalgic styles. With help from Zara Larsson and her bold colours, Pinkpantheress’s plaid, and the rediscovery of skate fashion, 2000s fashion will continue to rise.
