The Rec Center #365
Hello all! As we’ve always done for the final newsletter of the year, we’re taking a break from our standard format to talk about our personal fandom experiences in 2022. We’ll be back next week with our standard mix of articles and fanworks (specifically Yuletide recs!). — Elizabeth

This was a year of old faves for me; let us not delve too deeply into why during Our Current Times one might retreat into reassuring nostalgia.
While Interview with the Vampire and Our Flag Means Death brought me a lot of joy, I actually spent more time reading... Star Wars fanfic. During three separate bouts of lying in bed feeling very ill (once again: extremely 2022), I wound up reading zillions of words of Clone Wars fic, despite barely watching the show. What can I say, fandom’s dubiously-canonical interpretation of Cody is extremely compelling!! Love a reliable lad!
Otherwise: Pouring one out for the continuing demise of Twitter. We’ll see how that one pans out in the new year.

Fic-wise, I’m still active in the X-Men fandom: I wrote a fair bit there this year, and I really loved working on those fics, even when I was tearing my hair out trying to fix a scene. (Always seems like a great experience in retrospect!)
But in October, I fell *hard* for Interview with the Vampire, which is currently my primary ~taking up nearly all the space in my brain~ fandom. The fact that it could be a full year from now (or more) until the next season is devastating to me. Or the fact that there are no guarantees that we’ll someday get to see The Vampire Lestat onscreen...I weep. Yes, I’m even reading the books?? If you’ve read them…you get it lol. I am on a JOURNEY.
There were a few other shows I loved this year, some new, some just new seasons: Severance, Barry, The Other Two (HBO MAX PLEASE DO NOT HARM THE OTHER TWO!!!!!), The Dropout, The Bear. And because I, like many others, have recently been Sam Reid-pilled, I also recommend the Australian show The Newsreader to fans of 1) Anna Torv 2) shows with queer leads 3) period pieces about the media industry, and/or 4) Sam Reid close to tears in every other shot. :-)) — Elizabeth
FINAL THOUGHT
Happy New Year everyone! And just as a reminder—if you have some recs from this year’s Yuletide, get ’em in before next week’s newsletter! — Gav
