About the newsletter
Launched in 2016, The Rec Center is a weekly newsletter about fan culture written and curated by Gavia Baker-Whitelaw and Elizabeth Minkel. Each week we share a selection of fandom-related journalism and creative projects, along with fanfic recommendations and fanart. In 2020, we were finalists for a Hugo Award (!).

Gavia (bluesky/tumblr) is a journalist and film critic, with bylines at TV Guide, Atlas Obscura, the Daily Dot, and more. She hosts Behind the Seams, a YouTube series about costume design on film, and co-hosts the movie review podcast Overinvested.
Elizabeth (bluesky/tumblr) is a writer, editor, and consultant who’s covered fandom for WIRED, Atlas Obscura, the New Statesman, the Guardian, and more. She co-hosts and edits Fansplaining, a podcast and publication on fan culture.
