The Rec Center #313
As per usual, we’re switching up the format for our final Rec Center of 2021, looking back over our fandom experiences this year. Recs will return next week! — Gav

This year I wrote a whole bunch more X-Men fic—something that brought me a lot of pleasure and gave me something to methodically work through in a year when I really needed it. But in terms of media consumption, 2021 was a pretty frustrating year for me: a few of the shows I loved last year seriously disappointed me when their latest seasons came out, and some new stuff I thought had a lot of potential at the start really let me down in the end. Cheerful lol, sorry!
But!!! The one bright spot of my media year was Halt and Catch Fire, which completely took over my brain this past fall, in a fannish, think-about-it-all-the-time kind of way. I’m planning to write an explainer for the show at some point in the next few months; in the meantime, I’ll share a piece I wrote that came out this week: when I was deep in HACF land I was asked to write something about Black Sails, and I joked about only being able to write about one show at a time, and thus the “HACF recommendation for Black Sails fans” was born. I promise the two shows have more in common than just ”I love them both” ahahaha.

Happy Hogmanay from Scotland!
This year I just want to share my tremendous gratitude & admiration for the writers and artists of MDZS/Untamed fandom, a great solace in 2021 as in 2020. There’s a stunning amount of talent, insight & creativity in this fandom, and I wish you all the best in the New Year!
FINAL THOUGHT
We’re still soliciting Yuletide 2021 recs, which will make up the first list or two of 2022, depending on how many we get. (We’ve only gotten a couple so far, so please, keep sending them in!) You can send them via our submissions form, and please be sure to include “Yuletide 2021” in the themes field. — Elizabeth
