The Alcove - July 22 26

A Place of Peace and Sanctuary. Come on in and rest awhile.

Within this body and this alcove, we are ready to engage the world while first being strengthened in the Body of Christ.

Today we honour St. Mary Magdalene and turn to her as a great intercessor. For those that feel irredeemable, she reminds us that our repentance and humility bring us to the mercy of Jesus. She has known the joy of conversion and transformation. Can we take in the lovely hymn attached to the life of St. M. M. Take your time to enter the scene…

Out of the night where hope had died,

to tomb once sealed, now gaping wide,

the Magdalene made haste, to mourn

and bring her spices through the dawn.

She gazed in disbelief and pain

where Jesus in his death had lain,

until the radiant angel said,

Seek not the living with the dead.

Soon trusting love cast out her fears;

she rose and brushed away her tears.

As first apostle, Mary ran

to tell God’s resurrection plan.

Jesus is risen! Mary cries,

Lift up your hearts and dry your eyes,

Jesus is risen—come and see—

and goes before to Galilee.

All glory be to God above,

for Mary’s apostolic love,

all praise to God whom we adore

for ever and for evermore. Amen.

Update:

  • Our pods arrive back in Mundare tomorrow and we’ll begin the move back into our building. Any helpers on Friday are greatly appreciated. We need a couple more strong fellas for the furniture side of things. I cannot pay for help but can certainly cover gas costs and I can feed you. :)

  • The Alcove has 112 sign-ups as of today. It is a bang-up of a group so far! I love it! It is kind of fun building this back up with such like-minded folks!

One of our dearest CHHub members has passed on to the other side of the resurrection. Katie was a strong supporter of Chesterton House. I know our dear sister Lorraine (her daughter) will certainly miss her mom. They were a marvellous duo in fighting for freedom and educating others with facts and authentic information. Katie was a believer in her Saviour Jesus. I personally send out condolences to Lorraine and embrace her as my sister in Christ.

Open Mic - What is on Your Mind

What an amazing updated newsletter! G.B.

From A.M.

Re: taxes. I am in full agreement about property taxes (that they are theft). Taxation is a tool to discourage the purchase of a thing, in this case a home to shelter the family unit. Further, too often our tax dollars are used to finance projects we know nothing about OR even completely disapprove of.

From L.C.

I've recently wondered if the government should only tax residences above a certain size. If a family of 8 is living in a small house which is all they can afford, should the government be taxing that? But if you have two people living in an enormous private mansion just because they can, wasting precious resources and driving up housing prices, why not tax the heck out of that? The infill houses in Edmonton are hideous and so big, and yet family sizes on average are getting smaller. It seems silly to me.

Lyrics

I believe that I will look upon the goodness of the Lord
As I dwell in the land of the living
So I'll wait and I'll be strong and I'll take courage in his word. As I look upon the goodness of the Lord

As I look upon the goodness of the Lord
The Lord is my light and my sure salvation
With him by my side, whom shall I fear?
When all my enemies rise up against me
I know the Lord is near

I believe that I will look upon the goodness of the Lord
As I dwell in the land of the living
So I'll wait and I'll be strong and I'll take courage in his word
As I look upon the goodness of the Lord

The Lord is my light and my sure salvation
When I cry for help he answers me
In days of trouble, I'm safely hidden
His love will cover me

He is the stronghold of my life
The rock on which I stand
He is the fortress where I hide
I will wait on him
He is the stronghold of my life
The rock on which I stand
He is the fortress where I hide
I will wait on him

As I look upon the goodness of the Lord
And the praises that we sing will tell of all he has restored
As we look upon the goodness of the Lord
