Who am I? A textile artist with daddy issues and a uniform fetish, a longing to be transformed (into a machine, a monster or even a man) and a terror of the exigencies that transformation will demand.
What do I do? I make hero/villain avatars out of garbage, superficially parodic but deeply earnest — even worshipful — nonetheless. You can see them on my website or my Instagram.
What happens here? Occasional announcements plus essays on imaginary creatures, congenial dystopias, trashy movies, weird sex, untrue true stories, the double-edged lure of manliness and the vanity of belonging. Subscribe for free, maybe kick in a donation if you’re able.
What’s protean behavior? A term describing animals acting unpredictably to evade predation — or to invite sex. Named for Proteus, a Greek sea deity able to shape-shift at will.
