Edgar Cayce on Eyeglasses and Vision
Hi Friends,
Part of the Q&A of a Cayce reading was posted to a facebook group dedicated to Edgar Cayce. I noticed the section about vision and glasses:
(Q) What can I do for my eyes, that I may have a better vision? (A) The application of the vibrations, especially in the 1st cervical - or at the base of brain and over the head as given, will stimulate for a better vision. Practice the circular motions for the head and neck, closing the eyes and SEEING self SEEING better. This will create that reaction which brings practice of the nerve and muscular forces to that portion of the sensory system which has been disturbed. (Q) Are my glasses correctly fitted? (A) Very good at present. In six to eight weeks we will change them.

A month ago I went to a new optometrist (O.D.) for a contact lens prescription. The doctor was given the prescription from the glasses I was wearing, and the readout from the eyeball-scanner (the computer that O.D.s now use to measure the shape of your eye). He said it looked like my eyes had changed. He gave me a prescription that was a full diopter stronger than what I was using, and some sample contacts.
I thought my old, weaker glasses were just fine, so I didn’t put the contacts in until the night before my followup appointment. With the contacts everything in the distance was crystal-clear, but I couldn’t read my phone when held at the usual distance. They were every bit as terrible as I thought they’d be.
My contact check appointment was mistakenly scheduled for the practice’s other O.D. I said the prescription was much too strong, so he brought it down ½ diopter. This was still much stronger than what I was used to, but I didn’t object. The O.D. said the term I was looking for was “intermediate range”. I needed to be corrected for reading the monitor at arms length, not for birdwatching.
People frequently don’t like the eyeglass prescriptions they’re put in. Developmental Optometrists are much more flexible in not insisting that you see 20/20, when 20/40 or 20/60 is good enough to get by.
Edgar Cayce was frequently asked about glasses: 448 readings have the word ‘glasses’ in them. This is part of a reading for a “child” (no age given):

(Q) Mr. Cayce would properly fitted eyeglasses help this body at this time?
(A) Only adjustment to and by the conditions as we have given would assist this body to regain its perfect equilibrium. Adjusted glasses would only relieve some of the pain that is caused to the body at times, but would overtax it at others, see?
(Q) Yes. You would not advise glasses, then?
(A) We do not advise. We have given the condition. Do as we have given.
(Q) Mr. Cayce, with the osteopath treatment, will we improve the condition of his eyes?
(A) Just as we have given these to adjust this body for its full development, you see. That includes his eyes, and the whole portion of his body. Do that. We are through.
The techniques and technology to help people correct their vision has changed a lot in the last 100 years, but people are still the same today as we were when Cayce was giving the readings.
Children’s visual acuity frequently changes as they grow up. Glasses can help children see, but they can also be braces for the eyes that don’t allow the child’s vision to be as flexible as it used to be. A major factor for children having good visual acuity is how much time they spend outside.
I seem to remember my vision fluctuating when I was in 4th grade (~9 years old). I got my first pair of glasses in 5th grade. I seem to remember this as a somewhat stressful period in my home life.
Years after my head injury, my hands-on doctor started adjusting my prescription ever-so-slightly, based on how he felt my eye muscles pulling against my sphenoid (the shelf-bone that the eyes are attached to). I mentioned my theory about what was happening in my home life in 4th-5th grade. The doctor said my theory was a good possibility: “What was happening in your life, that you didn’t want to see?”
What is your experience with Glasses? If you’re having trouble with your prescription, drop me an email and I’ll send you a link or two. :)
