Two Terrific Things
Hello, Hungry Readers,
We are headed into a long weekend here in the US, and well, I like long weekends. I started to type who doesn’t and then of course I realized the answer was people who have to work them. I have worked places where I did work long weekends. Sometimes with holiday pay. (I do like holiday pay.) And sometimes not. But not having to work is good stuff, even when I do like the work.
I recently listened to Shannon C. F. Rogers’ I’d Rather Burn than Bloom* which is an rightfully angsty about crushes and parents, and the ways that parents embarrass and fail you, and how when a parent you were fighting with dies, you are left with not just grief, but all these other unresolved emotions. The audio narration was especially great.

And, I watched “Murderbot”. It’s on Apple TV, and as some of you know I have a fraught relationship my apple account, so it was only my interest in this show that led me to resolve the vicious reset your account, now log back in, now reset your account loop I had been stuck in. I am current on the series the show is based on, but I think it would be enjoyable to anyone interested in a bored, cynical, aging security bot’s thoughts on a bunch of space age Quakers* on a planet with improperly mapped dangers.
*They are not called Quakers anywhere in the show. I could have said UUs (as a UU myself.) But basically they are space age social justice consensus builders. Choose your fave Earth equivalent.
Long weekend or not, I hope you have some rest and reflection planned for this upcoming weekend.
