Two Terrific Books

Hello, Hungry Readers,

Yes, sometimes I think I should get more imaginative in titling these things, but clarity is good too.

We had a midweek holiday in the US, and as someone who has worked many places where I did not get mid week holidays off, or did, but didn’t get paid, this year was a very privileged year on that front.

Anyway, the leisure of sipping something delicious and reading is always a good time, holiday or no.

I sometimes feel like recommending a Beverly Jenkins books is a little like being like, have you heard of Beyonce, she’s got some bops. But, I read Forbidden, about a mixed race man who has been passing as white, who falls for a Black woman and realizes that he’s going to have to stop passing, in order to have the life he wants with her. It is now low angst, but one of the things that I love about Ms. Bev’s books is that they are fully grounded in the reality of the time, and also sexy and yearny. Kinda like life.

My TV watching has been spotty of late, but I still adore TV critics writing great things about TV and other pop culture, so enjoyed Ira Madison III’s Pure Innocent Fun even if I disagree a smidge with him about “Buffy”.

I hope you are finding reading and leisure time.
