Two Terrific Books
Hello, Hungry Readers,
I don't always read Austen retellings, but when I do...I drink tea?...Okay, I don't really have an ending for that sentence.
But I read two very different ones recently.
Sex Lies and Sensibility by Nikki Payne is the tale of two siblings who, after the death of their father, discover they were his second family, and their only inheritance is a rundown inn in Maine. The same rundown in a pair of Abenaki trail leaders want to use now that they've been forced off their prior route.
Gabe Cole Novoa's Most Ardently is a Pride and Prejudice retelling, with Oliver as the eldest Bennett finding that he doesn't much like this Darcy he met while dressed as a girl, but finds him so much more interesting hanging out with him as Oliver.
It's a remix, the setting is much closer to London. And for those who worry about the Bennetts, Mr. Bennett is very kind to Oliver. Mrs. Bennett is more concerned with prospects, but while scheming, is always scheming for her family. There are content notes at the start.
Have you read either of these? Have a favorite retelling?
