Two Non-Book Things
Hello, Hungry Readers,
My non-day job time is very busy with the hard work of watching sports like it’s a job. But before that I had been enjoying other things. And reading. Don’t worry, I have not forsaken reading. Just trying to expand the fun things.
I finally made progress watching a little show called “Abbott Elementary”. I know, a radical choice to watch an Emmy winning show. I am doling the show out to myself slowly. Not because of the sports, well, not just because of the sports. More, it’s such a fun thing, that if I try another show and hate it, I can then go watch an episode of “Abbott” and be happy.
The show, if like me you are three or so years behind on entertainment, is about the staff of an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. There’s the old teachers that have seen much. The new teachers who are still incredibly optimistic. he principal who is mostly about style. The janitor who finds everyone equally ridiculous.
And whether more hopeful or more optimistic, the show lets everyone be right some of the time, which I appreciate.
I’ve also been listening to a limited series podcast called “Tested” about the history of gender testing of female athletes and it is fascinating. I know I said this wasn’t about books, but I also read The Lost Olympians by Michael Waters, and The Race to Be Myself by Caster Semenya, both of which are mentioned in the podcast. And it is fascinating how these policies have come to be, and the stated reasons and the results. I look forward to additional episodes.
Hope you are staying cool where you are!
