Two Happysad but Terrific Books
Hello Hungry Readers,
There is a quote that is, as far as I can tell, a Mark Twain quote, but many people have told me it’s about their state. If you don’t like the weather here, wait a little. We have in the past week had record breaking heat (which in March is like 70F), snow, rain, wind, possible tornado. Dressing to leave the house requires research, because only a fool wears what made sense for yesterday.
But on to reading. Bookshop links included below.
I read Youngmi Mayer’s I’m Laughing Because I’m Crying which was, as you might glean from the title, sad and funny. She talks about growing up with immature parents, how cultures shaped by genocide are taught to express love differently, and other interesting things. She reads the audio.
Also on the proceed with care, but really good books, I read Claire Osongco’s Midnights with You. It’s about the daughter of an emotionally abusive mother who starts meeting up the the boy across the street as they try to flirt and maybe figure out good boundaries with their parents.
