Three Terrific Things
Hello Hungry Readers,
I usually start writing this newsletter a few days ahead of time, because as the week gathers up steam, things that aren’t done or at least mostly done often, well, don’t get done. Normally I don’t worry too much about my thoughts and feelings about books and other things I have adores changing. But it is, as they say, quite a week in DC. And I don’t know how that will have changed by the time you read this. Hopefully not much. I’m used to people talking crap about DC. I set many of my stories here because I live this city, and the fabulous people that live here.
But anyway.
Bookshop links included for books below.
I watched the first three episodes of “Chief of War” on Apple TV. Really enjoying this look at historical Hawai’i (and Maui, and O’ahu). I am very squeamish, but was able to watch it, with some judicious looking away. Content warnings for war, war crimes, racism, enslavement.
I’ve been having good luck with sporty romances of late. So let me mention Love and Sportsball by Meka James about a basketball player and a sports trainer who fall into the classic hooked up with someone it turns out is my new coworker conundrum.
And Love at First Set by Jennifer Dugan which, while the title sounds like tennis to me, is apparently just about working out. It’s a gym manager goes as a friend to her bestie/co-worker/son of the gym owner’s date to his sister’s wedding, and she bathroom pep talks a girl crying in the girl’s bathroom only to, you guessed it, discover it’s was the bride. WHo has now called off the wedding. And then she like maybe decides to distract the now definitely not a bride who is trying to interfere in said bestie brother’s life by, uh, kinda dating her. No way this plan goes wrong. Content warning for some very bad parents.
Anyway, hope things are good where you are. Happy reading!
