New Release - Tricked by Love
So, as the title suggests, I have a new release out. And we’ll talk about that. But first, let’s talk research.
I think some people assume that because I write about my hometown where I currently live, and write contemporary, I must save myself a ton of time on research. And sure, it helps. But also, I still do a lot of research to make sure the things I talk about are real things, not random bits that I heard somewhere and never verified. And also, I discover new things all the time.
So, I’ll be vague, but somewhere in this story, some characters are brainstorming names for new bar. And that meant, I, the foolish author, had to come up with a name for a new bar.
Circle Bar, which has appeared in a few places, I named as a joke to myself because there was a bar in DC called something like Two Triangles. This happens to me a lot, I’ll reach for a name, pick a silly placeholder, and by the end of the story be attached to that name.
I actually don’t remember how I came up with Bottom’s Up and it’s errant apostrophe. But likely it was me typoing it and then deciding to create a backstory for the typo.
And Two Bars - which is the bar getting renamed in the story, was a reference to the DC flag, which has two red bars on it. So, in keeping with the DC reference, I was googling DC state animals. And well, thrush is a cute bird, but maybe not a great name for a bar. (It’s not the thrush’s fault we also named a fungal infection after it, but we did.)
And then I discovered on a list capitalsaurus. Some construction workers found a tailbone, and it originally got named a few things, before someone decided it should be called capitalsaurus. And that dude, got the DC council to officially recognize it. Apparently that is not how you enter the name into the science annals, but hey.
Since they only ever found the butt, they aren’t sure what it looks like. But DC now does have an official dinosaur (butt).
Alright, on to the official story details:
Lillian doesn't date bartenders. Xavier doesn't do secret relationships. They are both about to break their rules.
Lillian's brother is a bartender, and the bartender circle in DC is too small for her to date within that pool. She meets a hot guy on the customer side of a bar and goes home with him. When she discovers he is a bartender too, she decides they never need to meet again. And that works, until he shows up to Thanksgiving dinner.
Xavier's family drama means he likes things clear and upfront. But he never forgot Lillian, and when they end up seated at the same dinner table, he decides he'll agree to just about anything for another chance with her.
Except secret relationships never stay secret for too long. When Lillian's brother and Xavier start looking into working together, Lillian and Xavier are either going to need to go public or end things.
