How May I Help You - 6
"My spouse lost her very terrible job," the caller sang, "and this is really a blessing in disguise!"
Rita felt like she was missing a meme or something. She didn't recognize the tune, but definitely caller seemed very excited by this turn of events. "Okay, well, are you adding them to your plan?"
"Of course," Caller sang. "Of course," the caller repeated in a speaking voice. "Just because I'm happy that terrible job is too stupid to realize what they lost, doesn't mean I don't want her taken care of."
"Sure," Rita said. They talked through the documents needed and the process to submit them.
"Oh cool," caller said. "And like the files are sent to the carrier weekly, right?"
"Correct," Rita said.
"And I know there can be a lag and it's retroactive anyway, just trying to get a sense of the timeline. Okay thanks! Now we're going to celebrate the terrible job being gone! bye!"
"Bye," Rita said. As the caller hung up she heard in the background, "You don't have to tell everyone it was a terrible job."
"The people should know!"
Well, Rita was glad they both seemed happy about the terrible job being gone. She checked caller's salary and it did seem likely that they were going to be okay on just one salary for a bit.
Rita then felt bad for peeking at their salary. They had gotten another message about use of employee data, reminding them they only had access for business use and while she did have a business reason for looking at this employee's record, which she now closed out after her note was added to the file, she hadn't needed to look at their salary.
Eden was convinced the messages were coming at a higher rate than normal and they must suspect someone of something.
Rita figured probably they were just trying to remind everyone regularly since one of the other client pods had just reshuffled as someone was out on paternity leave. But it definitely was a lot.
She wondered what Ben thought about it. For obvious reasons the didn’t discuss it on the work chat, and she and Eden texted outside of work, but she hadn’t with Ben. Rita wondered if it would be weird to ask him for his number to discuss work stuff. Although do you think we’re getting more work messages was barely work stuff. It would probably be weird.
