Metropolis Mailbag: Marvel vs. DC?

Anonymous asked:

This is obviously going to be a long ways away, but will you cover Superman's appearance in Marvel VS DC when you get to 1996?

Yeah! Considering that the chain of events that led to DC vs. Marvel (as a DC fanboy, I'm legally obliged to call it that) can be tracked down to "Reign of the Supermen," we sorta have to cover it. Plus, our beloved Dan "Mr. Everywhere In The '90s" Jurgens was involved, and we'd be failing our stated mission of covering "the raddest period in Superman history" if we didn't talk about the single raddest comic book ever produced...

Cannot wait to talk about that guy.

P.S.: How did "Reign" lead to DC vs. Marvel, you ask? I've talked about this somewhere before, but the TL;DR is: "Reign of the Supermen" led to Coast City's destruction, which led to "Emerald Twilight," which led to Zero Hour, which led to Oa's destruction, which led to a big, gaping hole in the literal middle of the DC universe that connected it to the Marvel one, as established in Green Lantern/Silver Surfer. Of course, "Reign" was itself the product of a tangled weave of other storylines, so for the sake of simplicity let's just say "John Byrne's The Man of Steel #1 led to DC vs. Marvel."

P.S.S.: While trying to find a good quality image of the Spider-Boy #1 cover, something that was impossible as of last month (yes, I do regularly look up this cover and I am just as regularly disappointed by the quality of the scans available), I learned that this issue is actually getting reprinted by Marvel as a facsimile edition this October, hence the crisp image above! There's your chance to own The Perfect Comic Book if you missed it the first time around.

P.S.S.S.: Incidentally, Spider-Boy co-creator Karl Kesel has a Kickstarter going for his Even Steven comic, and it looks like a fun one. Dan "Mr. Still Everywhere, Actually" Jurgens writes the intro!

P.S.S.S.S.: New post for Superman #0 coming soon™! This post is totally not an attempt to cover the fact that we couldn't get a proper post up during July.

P.S.S.S.S.S.: W-Why am I suddenly surrounded by cats
